Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Argentinian supernatural horror yarn The Funeral Home is a textbook example of style over substance. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 30, 2021 Full Review Wendy Ide Screen International There is an intriguing idea at the heart of this film, but it is too tonally uncertain to gather much momentum. Aug 24, 2020 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut An unusual, sad story about a haunted funeral home. Sympathetic characters, beautiful cinematography, and intense music. Mauro Iván Ojeda is a director to watch. Rated: 3/5 Feb 15, 2021 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid 'The Funeral Home' avoids too many spooky FX, staying mostly with its characters in their strange environment, half life and half death, and winds up with a truly unexpectedly beautiful coda. Rated: 3/4 Feb 8, 2021 Full Review M.V. Moorhead Less Hat, Moorhead The acting is top-notch. Better yet, though the tale has a psychological subtext, writer-director Mauro Ivan Ojeda keeps the film fun-scary instead of depressing-scary by playing rigorously by the hokey rules of the ghost story. Feb 4, 2021 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film It's an interesting piece of work which shows a lot of potential and will appeal to horror fans looking for films with conviction, yet it doesn't quite measure up to the scale of its own ambition. O H Overall not a bad movie. But I watched it in an English dub and it was a little choppy. The set design, physical acting, music and way it was filmed were fantastic! But because the version I watched didn't have subs to translate the written words it got a Lil confusing at times, and we kept pausing to google translate (which honestly made things worse at times lmao). It's not a super scary movie, for sure more suspense than straight up horror. But it was decently creepy and kept me interested thru most the runtime. The ending got a little fuzzy for me tho, maybe because I was struggling to hear the spoken words as the movie progressed, the audio mixing wasn't the greatest and the dialog was quiet? Unsure if I missed something or if the ending was just rushed, will have to decide when I watch the original lol. Would probably be more a 3.5 or 4 star in the original language with proper captions, where I'd likely have an easier time following and understanding the end a little better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Craig B The Funeral Home is a pretty creepy movie…which would be expected for a film set inside a funeral home! The short runtime ensures you are never waiting too long for something to happen, with plenty of tension building in between. The movie mostly relies on a sense of dread, creepiness and some scary moments rather than a heap of violence and gore, so don't get into this movie expecting lots of blood and gore. The best way to describe this movie is a classic atmospheric ghost story with slowly building tension and escalating creepy / scary moments. Well worth watching for fans of a good ghost story.
