Eric Kohn indieWire "Los Lobos" thrives as an intimate window into what it means to confront immigrant life in piecemeal. Rated: B+ Jul 30, 2020 Full Review Jessica Kiang Variety [I]t is this absence of blame, and the careful balance between childlike wonder and adult pragmatism, that makes "Los Lobos" feel like an act not just of remembrance, but of steadfast love and gratitude. Jun 30, 2020 Full Review Wendy Ide Screen International The film deftly blends fiction and documentary elements into a portrait of an immigrant community which shares some of the innocence and optimism of the kids at the heart of the picture. Oct 8, 2019 Full Review Tom Cassidy Common Sense Media Occasional animated interludes remind us that although The Wolves is realistic, it's not reality. The viewer is protected from the true possibilities but sent away with an increased empathy for the plights of others. Rated: 4/5 Jun 29, 2022 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia Its portrait is more or less well-intentioned, sometimes filmed in a documentary style, but I particularly find its discourse on immigration, innocence and maternal sacrifice a bit hackneyed. Daniel G Though slow, this realistic movie about the challenges of the American Dream highlights that most people are actually good and willing to help. From the looks of things, if the mother continues her selfless dedication to work and has the help of the Chinese landlords, soon her kids will be able to go to school and improve on their lot collectively - unless they get in with the wrong crowd. Important that there were clear signs of the stark reality that life in the US can also represent. And I absolutely was reminded of The Florida Project, one of 1st movies we watched on streaming (on HBO as well). Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/29/22 Full Review Audience Member What a lovely, slice of all-too-real life, movie. Wonderful performances esp. by the two boys, Leo and Max Marquez, and Martha Arias. Nice supporting work also by Cic and Johnson Lau. The direction by Samuel Kishi, as well as the screenplay by himself and his co-writers, shows signs of knowing what this experience is like, or at least some tought experiences in some low rent dives. The tone is just right for the context of the film and the events that transpire, and is maintained throughout. I did have hope that one issue would be resolved, and how it may well play out. Turns out it was, and just how I had imagined it might. This for me doesn't mean it was predictable. Rather it was an action that showed the still remaining virtues of a child that hasn't had life's miseries beat the goodness and remorse out yet. And it led to Lucia and her sons getting a reward for all their suffering and sacrifice, even if it was just for a day. Such are the moments that bring hope for the future. Emotiva, cautivadora y tierna. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review nefasto r Nothing unexpected, and to be honest even a bit tedious, and yet the sweetness of the film and the "softness" of the acting will make it worth your while.
