Scott P @11SP108 7h I've now seen this movie four times, including in the theater when it came out, and I still can't understand why people hate on it so much. If it wasn't an X-Files movie it would probably have been more well-received. I think because it wasn't another mythology film people just got butt hurt and refused to ever give it a fair chance. One thing to consider is that the budget for the first X-Files film was 66M but only 30M for this one. Chris Carter knew he couldn't create something as "big" as FtF with that kind of budget so that's probably why he did a smaller, standalone film. It's still an excellent film on all fronts and beautifully shot. The winter climate was something we never really saw much during the series and this film REALLY capitalizes on it to grand effect. This 2026 version doesn't drastically change anything, it just quickens the pace, adds a bit more gore and removes some romantic/sentimental moments between M&S. Excellent movie. Scully and Mulder's relationship felt contradictory with scenes indicating that they're not a couple, don't see each other as often, to another scene where they are living in the house and sharing the bed. The pair could've easily been replaced with any other two cops, and the end result would've been the same movie. It takes the already intense nature of the original's scaled up theatrical approach to the well beloved "monster of the week" and makes it a stand out x-files take on an R rated horror film and its all the better for it. See more David H @RT62008669 5d You know I think this latest movie version was very well done and true to the very essence of the original x files fans all remember. I enjoyed the story line, the cinematic filter, the director kept the pace and my interest all the way through too. Could be nostalgia weighing in, but the story seemed to hold together better in this version. Can never get enough X-Files, though I appreciated that this one took additional time to draw out the conflicts between science and faith. This movie, with the cuts and additions, removes some of the emotion from the first movie and switching it out for "r rated" sequences. Was it necessary? Nah. Do I appreciate it? Absolutely yes. I will always support new x-files and I think all fans should as well. The "professional" critics are not fans, they are critics, remember that. This movie is worth a watch for those who've never seen it and worth a re-watch for those who have seen the original. See more Read all reviews
