Jacob B @JB3.0 2 days ago Does Vrach Frankenshteyn improve upon the failed attempt at reviving The X-Files that was the 2008 film? No, not really. By trimming a couple of minutes from the movie's runtime to place more emphasis on the horror elements, this version of IWTB omits one of the original film's stronger aspects: the focus on Mulder and Scully's relationship. While the 2008 version was meant to ease in newcomers, it still had some merit for loyalists with the context of the show giving them an added bonus. It's basically why that film has gained more defenders who enjoy it as a character study. With the M&S dynamic downplayed (to the point that if you pay enough attention, you might notice some jarring jump cuts), it makes the baked-in flaws of IWTB stand out more such as the MOTW story not being strong enough to work as a feature film. This mostly exists just so that there would be content while X-Philes are waiting on Ryan Coogler's reboot. If you want actual new content, watch that Lego ad instead. See more Scott P @11SP108 Aug 29, 2026 I've now seen this movie four times, including in the theater when it came out, and I still can't understand why people hate on it so much. If it wasn't an X-Files movie it would probably have been more well-received. I think because it wasn't another mythology film people just got butt hurt and refused to ever give it a fair chance. One thing to consider is that the budget for the first X-Files film was 66M but only 30M for this one. Chris Carter knew he couldn't create something as "big" as FtF with that kind of budget so that's probably why he did a smaller, standalone film. It's still an excellent film on all fronts and beautifully shot. The winter climate was something we never really saw much during the series and this film REALLY capitalizes on it to grand effect. This 2026 version doesn't drastically change anything, it just quickens the pace, adds a bit more gore and removes some romantic/sentimental moments between M&S. Excellent movie. Scully and Mulder's relationship felt contradictory with scenes indicating that they're not a couple, don't see each other as often, to another scene where they are living in the house and sharing the bed. The pair could've easily been replaced with any other two cops, and the end result would've been the same movie. It takes the already intense nature of the original's scaled up theatrical approach to the well beloved "monster of the week" and makes it a stand out x-files take on an R rated horror film and its all the better for it. I enjoyed the story line, the cinematic filter, the director kept the pace and my interest all the way through too. The crescendo could have been better for a movie but it was perfect for an x files story. The actors looked and acted great!!! Well done!!
