Audience Member The environmental message within Thirsty Land was how we are currently in an extreme drought and the mandates that go with that in California. It went over the conservation of water throughout our state and how it is allocated. This documentary did a great job on explaining how hard the farming community is impacted when we are in a drought. It also documented where California gets its water supply from and the surrounding states and how that impacts our water supply as well. It explained how we had a million-acre feet of water, but the reservoir is currently at 10% of capacity which was barely enough for a farmer to keep a tree alive. It also did a great job in explaining the San Luis canal and the distribution of water that flows through that canal into the farming community of California. Unfortunately, it is at a do not distribute state because of the water drought. With the lack of water supply, our state has dropped to number 3 in being able to supply water for the farming community. The water we do have in the canal is distributed to the Los Angeles area. With 2014 and 2015 being the hottest our climate has been, environmentalists see our climate continuing to get hotter and hotter each year. This has brought more stress on our water supply even though California has a Mediterranean climate, it isn't adapt to handle this amount of drought. The West of the United States has been in an unprecedented state of drought. If the water drought continues, the fallout will be loss of farm lands, loss of jobs, loss of animals and will lead to a shortage in food supply that comes from local farms. The other major crisis this drought will bring, is more stress on the fire season. If the water doesn't come, the lands will be dry and cause more of a fire hazard to the surrounding communities. If a fire were to ever ignite in a drought ridden area, that fire will be even harder to put out because all of the dried up brush will increase the rate at which the fire will spread. This all leads back to water. Water, water, water! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
