Andrew Barker Variety An amiable if hopelessly scattered documentary about the significance of 'the ball' as both concept and object. Jun 8, 2014 Full Review Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times The film is certainly interesting, despite the fact that it's a glorified promotional video for Muniz's installations. Jun 6, 2014 Full Review Nicole Herrington New York Times While the first third is promising ... the subsequent hour is scattershot. Jun 5, 2014 Full Review Travis M. Andrews Paste Magazine There is a fantastic documentary within This Is Not a Ball, begging to burst onto the screen. As a result, the film is worth it for the touching moments, though more fully realized explorations on poverty and the means of escape it already exist. scott f Some very good stuff within this Televisa-produced doc, but it's scattershot, covers more ground than it should -- and not adequately, given its scope -- and gets tedious in places. Not even a must for soccer fans, unlike "Next Goal Wins," the 2014 World Cup film to see. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
