Farhan I Jonah Hauer-King was amazing in this!!! Best part of the movie. He is a real star. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review John R I really enjoyed this movie, I found it had a "Stand by me" feel to it following the younger brother and his friends, coming of age movie with some great acting. Have watched it more then once! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/12/22 Full Review Audience Member 2.5 out of 5 stars. Interesting premise. About a family going to the Rocky 3 movie and the fan base that Staten Island has with the movie in 1982. About a teen trying to get the girl he is falling for. While hsi brother is questioning his sexuality. The story falls thin. Acting is great. But the films direction also becomes stale. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/22 Full Review Audience Member This is a coming of age in the 1980's Staten Island Film. It is centered around one night, the release of Rocky 3, and series of events involving Frank Grillo's Italian American family. There are some heartfelt and funny moments. Frank Grillo is always great, as is Bobby Canavale. Naomi Watts and the supporting cast also good. This is a nostalgic piece and that works. Some of the other elements are not as well scripted. The storyline about Grillo's cross dressing son seems superfluous. The bullying and teen aspects are on point. Some good moments but mostly disappointing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Like Superbad, but without the humor Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/22 Full Review Audience Member This was a great movie not made for movie critics. This movie is a triumph for families today. It has a family we all can relate to , one that going through life in the way most of us real people can recognize. I found this movie to be funny , warm , touching , and inspiring. The cast was great Ms. Watts is incapable of a bad performance and Frank Grillo proves he is more than a action star capable of dramatic depths that can leave you in tears. The cast of Madelyn Cline, Lucius Hoyos, Jonah, Hoyer-King and the always amazing scene stealer Bobby Cannavale played characters that seemed to leap off the screen and sit right next to you. James DeMonaco, if you read your reviews and were less than pleased , just know , for the ones that matter, the audience at home , we loved your film and will enjoy over and over again. To all of you reading this , do yourself and your family a big favor this holiday season and watch This is the Night together, because this movie was made for us , not them. Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times An unconvincing, contrived and rarely relatable misfire. Rated: 2/4 Sep 30, 2021 Full Review Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com There are times when one might mistake it for an especially clever and relentlessly deadpan satire of the type of film it's desperately trying to evoke. Rated: 1/4 Sep 30, 2021 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews It gets just about everything wrong and then some. Rated: D Dec 27, 2021 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation The picture wears its contrivances like gold stars affixed to a first-time screenwriter's "memoir" movie attempt in film school. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 24, 2021 Full Review Mark Dujsik Mark Reviews Movies We buy that the boxing movie at heart of This Is the Night means something-and possibly a lot-to DeMonaco. One isn't quite as convinced about the story surrounding that movie. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 30, 2021 Full Review Travis Hopson Punch Drunk Critics This is an indulgence and the sentimentality gets away from DeMonaco at times, but it's a genuine, feel-good story worth experiencing for the memories it could bring up in you, too.
