Alan Alda does well here in projecting a dark side while seeming like a nice guy. The former soldier just can't relate to carefree Timothy, who used to be a clown and a mime. Of interest to see Alan Alda as a heel just before MASH; he delivers an understated creepiness right from the start though seems outwardly friendly. Deliberately paced even though only running for 82 mins.
