Jesse C May 17 Billy knocked it out of the grimy parking lot! The minimal use of music coating the scenes makes you really hone in on all the performers' words and actions. Tourists might swing by Deep Ellum to hear a band or drink it up at a dive or maybe a fancy hole in the wall, but, they don't see the sleaze, the anxiety, and desperation some go thru as "bottom of the totem pole" musicians. It's a difficult life, especially if you depend on the few bucks given as payment. Billy oozes the sorrow and pent up anger like a seasoned pro. It's a slow burner, a cinematic throwback.
