New York actor Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman) is a talented perfectionist who is so hard on himself and others that his agent (Sydney Pollack) can no longer find work for him. After a soap opera audition goes poorly, Michael reinvents himself as actress Dorothy Michaels and wins the part. What was supposed to be a short-lived role turns into a long-term contract, but when Michael falls for his castmate Julie (Jessica Lange), complications develop that could wreck everything.

I know this movie might seem politically incorrect now. But it was a different time back then. I think this movie could be considered a cult classic. It's about a struggling actor trying to make it in the business. Doing whatever it's takes to get by. He's not afraid to take chances. Dude dresses like a lady. But he's left with no choice. It's not from lack of trying. Hollywood can be like a woman. Feisty & To Fickle. Bill Murray, Teri Garr, Dustin Hoffman, Dabney Coleman, & Jessica Lange, Geena Davis give memorable performances. You might even say the storyline has been done before. Of a man dressing up like a woman to find a job in a man's world. But it's never been done better. With the exception of Mrs Doubtfire.

Filme bacaninha, o roteiro é mais ou menos, a história é mais ou menos, a atuação do Dustin Hoffman é boa, o elenco não ajuda muito, mas as cenas do Michael e da dorothy foram bacaninhas, como a cena que Michael se revela ser dorothy e todo mundo fica chocado, com tudo isso, eu meio que recomendo por ser um filme de Oscar.

An interesting tackle on gender roles that feels like a precursor to Mrs. Doubtfire. I was considering a 9/10, but wasn’t sure about its complicated relationship with how it executes the feminism that it outwardly preaches. It’s very funny and Dustin Hoffman gives it his all, even if his first girlfriend’s relationship and the boundaries he crosses takes it down a slight notch. But still, I’d argue it’s less creepy and more original than its more famous cousin “Mrs. Doubtfire” in my book.

Synopsis
