An English remake of Ang Lee's Eat Drink Man Woman, Tortilla Soup is as charming and flavorful as the dishes it features.

Steve M Interesting movie about a family and the interactions between father and three daughters as they move out and start their own lives. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/16/21 Full Review Audience Member “Eat Drink Man Woman.” Flavorful and fun. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/20 Full Review Audience Member This movie had been on my TBW list forever and I'm really glad that I finally watched it. I didn't expect to love this movie so much, but it was amazing. The cast including Hector Elizondo (whom I've loved in so many movies and TV shows-Monk in particular), Jacqueline Orbradors (whom I loved on NYPD Blue) and Elizabeth Pena (love her too!) were great! I really liked Paul Rodriguez because although he had some funny lines but it was nice to see a more dramatic side of him opposite Elizabeth Pena. The storyline is family oriented, centering around a family of three daughters and their father and the relationship of the daughters with their respective love interests. It flipped back and forth between stories but it was really easy to follow and not confusing at all. The food-OMG, the food shown was absolutely amazing and the filmmakers have made the food a star, which rivals the actors and actresses. There is barely any swearing and no nudity at all, which was a wonderful surprise. Loved everything about this movie except for a few plot holes that could have been explained better, but overall "Tortilla Soup" is wonderful. I loved the way the Spanish and English were mixed so well. It really brought out the theme of the film. I highly recommend it, but maybe not when you're hungry. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review dustin d Tortilla Soup is a charming movie, but suffers in comparison to Ang Lee's original. Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Only some of the characterizations exhibit subtlety, though most of the performances have considerable charm. May 27, 2011 Full Review Ken Eisner Variety Thanks to a perfectly blended ensemble led by Hector Elizondo, in his best screen role to date, Tortilla Soup is a warm-blooded winner with equal emphasis placed on taste buds and heartstrings. Dec 3, 2008 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Though the cast are willing, the movie plods along in need of the zingy flavours and hot spices we see going into Elizondo's cooking. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Héctor Elizondo shines as the family patriarch Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Rosa Parra Latinx Lens Don't watch this movie while hungry. Thoroughly enjoyed this family dynamic and Elizondo in this role. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 15, 2021 Full Review Maitland McDonagh TV Guide While this cheerful film has nothing particularly new to say about the ties that hold family members together even when they're driving each other crazy, it's a pleasure to watch such a talented ensemble at work.
