Ann Ross Maclean's Magazine So colossal, so filled with energy and crazy purpose and so overwhelmingly technical that the producers, you are likely to feel, might just as well have built the tunnel while they were at it, instead of simply making a picture about it. Steve D Not sure how they got this talent involved. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Audience Member One of the most underappreciated, flying under the radar, science-fiction movies of the 1930's, as well as in movie history. Starts out a little slow, but after the first Act, the movie picks up the pace and evolves into an excellent story of greed and finishing a grand scheme. Could not recommend this one enough. How they filmed some of the scenes in the tunnel amazes me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A good concept and quality technical aspects (for the times) can only carry you so far. There are some remarkably flat performances which could have been largely dealt with by cutting out about 90% of the romance. Still, considering the year this flick was made, it's an admirable glance into the future on several counts. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It is never established why how the main character thinks that this tunnel will bring about world peace. Was this the inspiration for Elon Musk's Hyperloop Concept? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member 38% I was hoping that this film would be about the trails and tribulations of the working man, whilst trying to build another world wonder or even a disaester flick. Instead, we get the upper crusts' boring politics (fundraising, stocks, publicity) and even a marriage that needs some patch work. The movie looks good and the last six minutes were great...just not the stuff I was looking for. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member It is amazing they were making talkies for over seven years by the time this movie was released. Unfortunately, acting had not yet been discovered by this time. After watching this film, I will be less hasty in taking for granted the bad movies made in the past twenty years. Can someone do some research and confirm for me that every movies in the 30's had a breakfast scene with someone eating grapefruit? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
