Benjamin Mercer Village Voice At 71 minutes, the film too schematically ratchets up the inhospitality, but its portrait of Amman -- Hushki offsets the increasingly claustrophobic domestic scenes with views of the metropolis, which Laila also now finds too Westernized -- is welcome. Audience Member Interesting portrait of the clash of cultures: Islam - American, conservative Islam - secular, ... I like particularly the scene where Laila sat with her father in front of the TV. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Great movie from Jordan - and my first. Saba Mubarak gives great portrayal of a Jordanian woman who comes back home after 14 years abroad and just cannot find a connection to the country and people once so close. Is it her who has changed or her home country? I think everyone has experienced a similar episode in his life. When the walls seem to come down on you, you just want to get out and get back home where everything is familiar and everyone is happy; what a disappointment to realize that the last resort is an illusion. Apart from this aspect of the story, I was introduced to Jordanian culture and Arabic cinema. I hope I'll get the chance to see more movies from this part of the world in the future.
