Audience Member A great coming of age film which truly embraces the mumble core genre. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member After seeing Craig Johnson's 'Skeleton Twins' I was curious to see other shows he may have written. This film was perfect as far as indie-flicks, Honest Stories, and real-life humor are concerned. See it if you get the chance. Especially if you live in Seattle...you'll notice a lot of familiar sites. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member At home with Alison and Hana Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite being more formulaic than alternative, True Adolescents skates by thanks to Mark Duplass' sardonic confidence. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member It tries to hard to be poignant but its got some good laughs here and there. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Frances H Very slow and not all that deep with much to say. Men take a lot of time to mature? That is not really news to any woman. That guys really don't plan anything all that well? Also not news. There really wasn't that much new to say in this film that justified wading through the long, dry, boring spells, How it rated so high is beyond me. Matt Singer IFC.com There's something refreshing about True Adolescents. It feels like mumblecore's inherent immaturity finally coming of age. Rated: B Sep 5, 2011 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times Time and again, "True Adolescents" resists the temptation to succumb to easy melodrama. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 28, 2011 Full Review Ronnie Scheib Variety True Adolescents bears the dubious distinction of combining mumblecore's penchant for artistic slackers with Hollywood's celebration of immature slobs. Jul 26, 2011 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews First-time director Craig Johnson hits the ball out of the park in this perceptive slacker-humored but bleak coming-of-age story. Rated: B+ Nov 2, 2011 Full Review Mike Scott Times-Picayune Once it hits its stride, it's oddly compelling stuff. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 23, 2011 Full Review Eric D. Snider EricDSnider.com While True Adolescents may be typical of its genre, it's a solid, well-made entry, with a few details (like its treatment of sexual identity) that help it stand apart from the pack.
