Elevated by its stars' magnetic chemistry, True Things mines complex, character-driven drama from an ill-advised romance.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Without the two leads, “True Things” doesn’t offer much. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 14, 2022 Full Review David Stratton The Australian I can imagine that this cautionary tale will have its supporters, but I found Kate such an infuriating character that it was extremely difficult to sympathise with her. Rated: 2/5 Sep 12, 2022 Full Review Fran Hoepfner TheWrap A raw and passionate look at the type of love that can be both all-encompassing and destructive, passionate and dangerous. Sep 9, 2022 Full Review Daniel Allen Loud and Clear Reviews Tom Burke and a superb Ruth Wilson star in True Things, Harry Wootliff’s British drama about a tender (then toxic) romance that is visually interesting but gradually peters out. Rated: 3/5 Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Greg Hyde Under the Radar True Things is a compelling psychological drama anchored by a strong performance from Tom Burke. Rated: 7.5/10 Oct 28, 2022 Full Review Liam Lacey Original Cin A refreshingly adult drama about infatuation and self-sabotage, True Thing leaves a strong impression, despite a disappointing ending. Los G Great performance by Wilson, horrible miscasting of Burke and the sort of film that makes you go, ok . . . . so what? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/15/24 Full Review Ken S Great directing, really engaging filming and excellent performances from the lead actors. I thought this was a brilliant examination of someone on a downward spiral of loneliness and misplaced hope before finally finding themselves. I thought it was a particularly powerful performance from Ruth Wilson, she seems to have completely immersed herself in Kate's character - top notch! I totally agree with the critics score and really don't get why the audience score is so way off that?! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review A K One word perfectly describes this movie - BORING Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Ok, I'm not usually this way, but the end saved it for me. I was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. This was a frustrating and mind boggling watch at times, but I hung I'm there and completed the movie. I wouldn't recommend to non-hard core movie folks. I streamed it, and it's definitely not worth a theater watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/24/22 Full Review wayne m True Things is a very perceptive, incredibly nuanced film about a woman trapped in a toxic relationship. It is described as a psychological thriller but I think it's more than that. Kate is a rather aimless woman, floating through life. She works at an employment centre in Kent, England and lacks direction in her life. One day a man with a checkered past comes into her work. He is clearly damaged but has a certain charisma. Soon they have a sexual encounter and it seems she might have found someone to share her life. But there is something off about him and soon his behaviour is destructive and deceiving. This expertly made film encapsulates very well how a woman can be manipulated by a man who uses his power to have her cling to his every action. It's beautifully written with great lead performances from Ruth Wilson and Tom Burke. It's filmed with many close ups which push you right into a very compelling story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Stephen C The greatest 01 hour: and 42 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/10/22 Full Review Read all reviews
