Elevated by its stars' magnetic chemistry, True Things mines complex, character-driven drama from an ill-advised romance.

Christina Newland iNews.co.uk Ends up feeling more like a treatise on toxic boyfriends than the free-floating exploration of forbidden sexuality that it had first promised. Rated: 3/5 Sep 19, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Without the two leads, “True Things” doesn’t offer much. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 14, 2022 Full Review David Stratton The Australian I can imagine that this cautionary tale will have its supporters, but I found Kate such an infuriating character that it was extremely difficult to sympathise with her. Rated: 2/5 Sep 12, 2022 Full Review Daniel Allen Loud and Clear Reviews Tom Burke and a superb Ruth Wilson star in True Things, Harry Wootliff’s British drama about a tender (then toxic) romance that is visually interesting but gradually peters out. Rated: 3/5 Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Greg Hyde Under the Radar True Things is a compelling psychological drama anchored by a strong performance from Tom Burke. Rated: 7.5/10 Oct 28, 2022 Full Review Liam Lacey Original Cin A refreshingly adult drama about infatuation and self-sabotage, True Thing leaves a strong impression, despite a disappointing ending. Loren H A very well done and unique movie exploring many aspects of toxic relationships and neediness. Skillfully produced from camerawork to Wilson’s performance to the plot. Not sure why some didn’t like it except that it wasn’t a “fun” movie - more along the lines of a subdued, realistic, and slower version of Leaving Los Vegas. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/25/25 Full Review Dan B I didn't know what to expect from this movie. It began by exploring quite an erotic relationship between a benefits advisor and one of her customers. It then became a quite believable toxic relationship, with Blond fully in control. She hoped for a relationship with him but she was worse off and more alone in this relationship than she would have been on her own. Family and friends were unsupportive and critical of her life choices. The scenes in the car with another date were cringe worthy but believable. I think quite a few people watching this movie will relate to what she was going through and empathise and understand. This is the life and experience of modern day life for quite a few people. The acting was good and I appreciated it. I liked the ending, when she seemed to realise she deserved and needed so much more. A story of our times Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Kat H Looked promising at the start with 2 good main actors. Build up to a very short ending. One of the worst endings I have seen. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/18/25 Full Review Caroline W This movie was terrible. What was the plot? The two main characters were deeply unlikable and unremarkable. I kept waiting for the movie to get interesting… it never did. This movie was the worst movie I have ever watched (and I’ve watched the emoji movie). I wish I could say there was a deeper more introspective meaning but no. Just wasted almost two hours I will never get back. DO NOT WATCH. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/25 Full Review Luz V Amazing movie, Tom burke is incredible. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Stephen A I found this mysterious film very engaging and was left thrilled by the final, satisfying climax. It was an extremely worthwhile subject to deal with and approached it with passion, honesty and sincerity. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
