Tasha Robinson Polygon It’s beautifully crafted and creepy as hell. Oct 31, 2022 Full Review Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint What the film forsakes in the acting department (with irregular performances), it more than compensates for with visual richness, artistry, imagination and genre-loyalty. Jul 29, 2019 Full Review Anupama Chopra Film Companion I left the theatre with images swirling in my head and a few questions that the film doesn't answer. Which is not a bad thing. Suyash V Tumbbad isn’t just a movie — it’s pure visual poetry. A dark, mesmerizing masterpiece that blends mythology, greed, and human emotion in a way Indian cinema has rarely seen. Every frame is breathtaking, every sound pulls you deeper into its eerie world. Watching Tumbbad feels like witnessing the moment Bollywood finally let go of nepotism and those same recycled, meaningless stories — and decided to create something truly extraordinary. It’s proof that when passion, vision, and storytelling come together, Indian cinema can reach world-class heights. ⭐ 5/5 — A hauntingly beautiful masterpiece that reminds us what real cinema feels like. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/25 Full Review Logan D A greedy man returns to his childhood home to learn where a hidden stash of gold is. He finds much more. Hidden gem! A Gothic folk horror fable about greed decorated with morally complex characters, an immersive atmosphere with muted, earthy colors. Really, it defies genres and I saw it as a Grimm's Fairy Tale via the filter of Indian culture. Highly recommended Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/25 Full Review steve d Whoever wrote the description for RT dosent realize the 1900s is the 20th century not the 19th century. This movie takes place in the mid 20th century. Anyway i quite enjoyed it. There were probably some flaws but i didn't mind. I don't watch Indian movies much so this filming style was a fresh for me. Very good atmosphere. I liked the filming style. Acting was decent. Good dialogue. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/25/25 Full Review Dipak P. Power pack of entertainment. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/23/25 Full Review r96 s 'Tumbbad' is very good folk horror fare. It's a movie that feels unusual for what Bollywood tends to offer, at least the sorta films that I've checked out from this part of the world. Aside from the evidently irremovable music interlude, it felt different - a good different. I would say that the story gets a bit underwhelming across the middle portion, though the opening chunk and final moments are impressive - both featuring young actors, in my opinion this flick is at its strongest with Dhundiraj Jogalekar and Mohammad Samad (plus Jyoti Malshe, Rudra Soni) onscreen. The special effects for when the characters are involved with Hastar aren't the greatest, but the film undoubtedly makes it work and it still adds the required creepiness. The practical effects for the 'old woman' are excellent though, very unnerving. Story-wise it is sturdy, it's fairly straightforward in terms of the message of greed but it works and is portrayed nicely. As noted, if not for a meandering middle I'd be rating this higher. All the same, it's a suitably entertaining movie and one that's worthy of recommendation. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/18/25 Full Review 21 - Priyan B True horror.
