Kashyap's brilliant five-hour-plus epic is a hard act to follow, and this more pedestrian outing may well disappoint some critics. Still, as genre films go, it's punchy enough to enjoy a charmed life on the fest circuit.

Don't expect a Hollywood ending - there's no one to champion among this sorry lot of soulless connivers.

A grungy, dark police procedural set in motion by a little girl's kidnapping, Ugly has few discernible auteur touches to set it apart from standard genre fare.

Ugly is a disappointment, not just because it's a whodunit that sinks like a badly-made souffle but also because we expect better and more of Kashyap.

You'll probably be confused as to whom to root for by the end of the film, but the answer really is nobody. Kashyap never tries to make you sympathise with any of the characters, thereby making them more real.

Ugly, in one simple line, is about how we tend to lose greater things in life because we are too stuck on our own perceptions and insecurities.

I rearly watch Indian flicks. Actually, this is one of my first films. A girl with divorced parents get's kidnapped. The relationship between the parants are not especially good and it does not help that the policeman that are on the case are dating the mom.
This is a pretty fast paced film with many happenings and twists. It has some very funny moments and it's a pretty wild ride. It's quite smart and catchy and it's well acted. The production is fine and in general this is a pretty good film. I noticed that the actors all of a sudden switched to English for only a few sentences or frases. I don't know it this is a typical Indian thing but I found it interesting at least. OK film, with few faults, but it was maybe a bit messy and easy at some levels.
6 out of 10 Internet cafés.

I don't know why it has got 63% on rotten tomatoes as it deserves at least 90+ rating. This film has one of the finest plots ever written and only Anurag Kashyap can explore the dark side of people with flawless presentation.

Thrilling movie with lot of twists and turn. Only downside is that it's a dark story with lots of soulless characters.
