Eight R
The greatest Anime film of all time. All the things that make anime great: beautiful, strange, thought provoking, trippy, dark, but at times light and very fun. Anyone who likes animation needs to see this, though fair warning its not for children.

I can't stop thinking this movie was made in 1984!!! And I was thinking while watching this film on Jake's Source Code (nothing new by the way, since this film came first, anime fans! Check original films before watching the REMAKES!). PD: This film also reminds me of Paprika (this one maybe copy this one, and then came Inception, who was inspired on Paprika, who was inspired on THIS FILM). That's all, now enjoy the fun!
Plot: A woman decides to have the best dream of her life with the one she loves and all the friends of his. The problem? The day repeats itself over and over again, and only one knows who is really dreaming. It could be the girl or anybody. Answer? Check the film, is AMAZING AND MAKES YOU THINK LIKE HELL! PD: I started the plot that way to...confuse you XD Is a clue, but still is NOT a spoiler. Is upon you to get the rest of the clues and not only enjoy the film, but resolve the PUZZLE! Stars for this interesting story-telling? YEP!
Music: I skip the voice acting/over part, reasons? You know the answer to that LOL Anyway, the score was childish, fantastic and colorful, very dramatic and also intense. Stars here for this wonderful music.
To end this short review, 3 & a half stars of 5. Is kind of slow (that's one of the reasons I did not give it 5 stars), but the rythm and PAYING ATTENTION helps a lot. Enjoy and HASTA LA PROXIMA AMIGOS/AS!!! BLESS YOU ALL!!! CHAO!!!

One of my favorite movies as a kid, very easy to slip into a fantasy world.

The Ursei Yatsura franchise & TV series is an insane, wacky, hyperactive, frantic, comedy show with most of its humour rooted in Japanese culture and in general it's not really my cup of tea. However the director, Mamoru Oshii of Ghost in the Shell fame, whilst using the characters and setting of the TV show tones down the madcap slapstick nonsense a notch or two and instead creates a trippy, surreal, philosophical film concerning dreams and how they interact with reality. It's still a comedy but this has got miles more depth than anything seen in the TV series.
Without any knowledge of the TV series this film will probably baffle newcomers with its strange cast of weird characters and its odd and unreal universe. However if you can get past that obstacle then there's a really clever and well made film underneath that explores themes and ideas concerning the nature of dreams and what we percieve as reality, territory that Oshii would return to and expand upon in his later films, whilst reamining an enjoyable and light hearted comedy. A quick briefing on the Japanese folktale of Urashima TarÅ and Zhuangzi's butterfly dream may also aid understanding of the plot if needed!

This is a great movie. Mamoru Oshii doesn't spend much time with characters and situations, but rather he takes one circumstance (the granting of Lum's ideal dream), and he goes on from there. The problem is, too many participants of that dream want to return to

This one can be hard to follow if you don't know the characters from the UY manga or TV series, but is still a great stand-alone movie. This movie is what first got me interested in the manga.
