After purchasing Hungarian home movies, filmmaker Ben Meade becomes fascinated by the footage, taken between 1948 and 1964. Superficially innocuous, the family's films hint at darker undercurrents, with images suggesting child molestation and the father's ambiguous involvement with fleeing Jews in World War II. Curious, Meade comes to Budapest to find the grown children in the footage. He tracks down an alcoholic man and his sister, who refuse to talk to him.
