Audience Member Manuel Puig was a respectable Argentian writer who wrote "Kiss Of The Spider Woman" (most famous of his 8 novels) but this movie fails to enlighten. Fabio Aste looks like the author but the screenplay shows that he was good at lusting at young boys, watching Rita Hayworth movies, or hanging out with fag hags. We see him pecking away at a typewriter but fail to understand any inspiratiion. What was special about him? This could have been a movie depicting a gay writer facing depression, or a lonely exiled writer trying to fit in an uprooted city. It works more as a travelogue since it was filmed in beautiful Rio. Mind you the cinematography is second-rate but it does give you a sense of the Latin American culture. My disappointment is that the life of Manuel Puig deserves a much better treatment than "Vereda Tropical" offers. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Utterly annoying and forgettable. I really don't think Manuel Puig was so selfish, boring and shallow. A movie filled with some bad acting, edting and cinematography. A complete failure and a disrespectful tribute to a great author. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews
