Noel Murray The Dissolve Morris' first two films are as carefully composed and thematically complex as any scripted drama. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 23, 2015 Full Review Brian Susbielles InSession Film ...fascinated by the citizens of Vernon, Florida, and produced an insight into a piece of hidden America... Mar 6, 2023 Full Review Jordan M. Smith IONCINEMA.com Vernon, Florida feels more like an endearingly backwoods mélange, complete with possums, antlers and the tranquility of the southern swamps delicately shaded by the overlooking weeping willow. Rated: 4/5 Oct 28, 2020 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand If anything, it confirms the cliché that truth is stranger than fiction. You couldn't make up these interviews. Feb 4, 2018 Full Review Jade Budowski Decider ...something truly special, both funny and moving, strange and captivating. Jan 19, 2018 Full Review Walter Chaw Film Freak Central a Platonic dialogue in that it's suspiciously like a monologue disguised as an exchange. Rated: 4/4 Sep 8, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

David F This documentary about a small town in Florida is Americana at its finest. The turkey hunter is a particular delight. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The greatest 01 hour: and 12 minutes with real footage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Country bumkin interviews with no real through line other than they live in a backwoods town and have no real ambition. Usually it doesn't matter what the subject(s) is in a doc, the producer will be able to make it interesting, but it's unclear whether the audience should feel sorry for the subjects or be entertained by their monotonous lives. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member hated it. this is the most overrated documentary ever. if you have any expectations you will be disappointed. literally an hour of unintelligent, uneducated stream of consciousness rambling. are you you ok with laughing at people who are obviously mental? do you get off on mocking the poor and uneducated? if you like popular culture or acting or music, this is probably not the movie for you. I want to scream when I hear someone say it is their favorite movie. how many movies did you watch? 2? I have zero faith in your ability to either judge or understand movies. it is not funny. you will not laugh. it is not quotable. I have never heard any of these quotes anywhere elsewhere. I have read multiple reviews from supposedly educated people. the guy with the turtle does not think it's a gopher. it's a type of turtle. Google it. the fan base is surprisingly liberal and very heavily skewed toward vegans or Floridians who take a perverse sense of pride in this dumpster fire. predictably, they will say that people like me are unsophisticated and incapable of understanding. there is no goal... background ..context... there is no reason for this movie to exist or for you to watch it. there is the distinct possibility that I have helped lower your expectations and you might be able to actually watch it and see it for what it is. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/19 Full Review Audience Member Slice of life documentary done immaculately. This film is packed with charm and quirkiness. Another director might have taken the low road and used these people as comedic punching bags but Errol Morris captures the folk of Vernon with love and transparency. We are never looking down on them and by the end of this 55 minute film, Vernon, FL almost feels a bit like home. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member As an almost follow-up to the strangely appealing Gates of Heaven, this is a simple documentary that does have its moments and yet seems a lot more interested in mocking its eccentric subjects than having anything really interesting to say about their mundane lives and experiences.
