Audience Member This movie was confusing. I'm not entirely sure I enjoyed it. However, with that said, I must admit that I could not stop thinking about it when it was over. The ending had left me with a really unsettling feeling. Viena and the Fantomes leans into a phycological horror/drama genre versus straight up drama or romance. This is not a romantic film in the general sense. With a visual appealing vibe and a really strong cast I believe the downfall was the story editing, which seemed off and lack luster. The character relationships were hard to keep track of and the reactions between some of the characters were confusing at times. The intensity of a supposed love triangle was really lost until the end of the film and there was not enough of a build up to justify reactions from the characters perspectives. In most scenes, the lighting was too bright and the camera out of focus. I believe the filmmaker's intention was to provide a look into the alternative punk movement of the 1980s and show the lifestyles of the roadies who followed the bands, but unfortunately, he failed miserably. This film has a very esoteric feel and only consists of deep character plots, without showcasing any of the music from that time period; all sex, but no rock n' roll. It's hard to believe that with a cast this strong, no one would put up a decent Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Glenn Kenny New York Times The movie nevertheless operates on the fallacy that the mere fact of being concerned with a band suffices to generate interest. Jul 2, 2020 Full Review John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Attractively grimy photography by Emilio Valdes and an overall gone-to-seed aesthetic make this particular tour feel like a mild hangover without the night before's good times, which is probably the point. Jun 30, 2020 Full Review Josh Bell Eat More Art Has the feel of a compromised movie, with a brief running time and a choppy, impressionistic structure that comes off like it has pieces missing. Jul 16, 2020 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Smoking, drinking, language in meandering road-trip movie. Rated: 2/5 Jul 11, 2020 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Besides the off-putting characters, it doesn't explore gender politics or the music business of the era with any meaningful depth.
