Audience Member This isn't a great movie by any stretch of the imagination but it is an enjoyable one. The character version of Evel Knievel in this movie (to distinguish from the real person) reminds me a lot of the character versions of himself that El Santo would play on film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This film probably isn't as faithful to the real Knievel as it tries to be, which makes him a bit silly at times. Otherwise- it's a pretty long dull movie. The drama isn't that exciting, and the plot is very generic. It never gets as exciting as you'd think it would be. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Clearly an Evel Knieval vanity project and a somewhat fascinating one. Leslie Nielsen is the bad guy and it's kind of awesome. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member The perfect movie for any MST 3K types to have fun with! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A death defying motorcycle daredevil, Evel Knievel, goes on a tour in Mexico, where a group of drug smugglers are plotting to sneak cocaine past the U.S. boarder in his truck - and his coffin. Starring famous real life daredevil Knievel as himself, and strangely also starring Gene Kelly in a supporting role and Leslie Nielsen as a baddie, this film is a laughable disaster. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It's difficult to consider Viva Knievel an entertaining film, much less deriving any entertainment value from it. It's not a good movie, and those that see it will agree with that. It is, however, a bit of a curiosity, mainly because of its star. The plot of the film itself involves a ring of bad guys looking to kill off Evil Knievel while he performs in Mexico and send back to the U.S. a large amount of drugs in his coffin so that customs and border patrol won't find it. It's a dumb plot, but there are some great working actors in it. You have Leslie Nielsen, Cameron Mitchell and Marjoe Gortner, but you also have Lauren Hutton, who's absolutely terrible in the movie (mainly because her and Knievel didn't get along) and you have Gene Kelly, late in his career. Knievel himself is no actor either, and it's strange seeing a fictionalized version of him with a love interest when he was married and had kids in real life at the time. The film does have several unintentionally funny moments, enhanced by the folks at Rifftrax, but if you're looking for a '70's oddity, then look no further.
