Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times You don't need to be a fan of Wagner, or even opera, to find this a fascinating glimpse of a dauntingly complex human endeavor. Rated: 4/5 Jul 26, 2012 Full Review Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly The result is an engrossing chronicle of creative people under pressure, a movie about the madness of opera for which no knowledge of opera is required for full enjoyment. Rated: A- Jul 25, 2012 Full Review Farran Smith Nehme New York Post It's a bit startling that director Susan Fremke would choose to make a documentary about the set. Rated: 2/4 Jul 19, 2012 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: B+ Feb 28, 2013 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International Marvelously candid documentary depicting the creation of a massive, seemingly foolhardy pipe dream of a production. One of a handful of truly fine movies about opera. Jul 19, 2012 Full Review Harvey S. Karten Compuserve Richard Wagner would be overjoyed to see a production of his Ring cycle staged in a manner that was impossible in the 19th Century. Audience Member One of the best "behind-the-scenes" films ever. It's serious, heart-felt, profound and a real treat for opera and theatre lovers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it, especially the last part, about the cast. (They could have edited the technical first part a lot.) Great interviews with Deborah Voigt; her operatic acting is so good, it's nice to see what she herself is like, which is candid and engaging. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The behind the scenes (trials and tribulations) of Robert Lepage's new production of Metropolitan Opera's Wagner's Ring Cycle.. A must see for all serious opera lovers (like me!). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Spectacular documentary about the behind the scenes drama of staging the world's most challenging opera. See it, even if, like me, you don't care for opera. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Really whets the appetite to see the whole Ring Cycle. Brilliant staging.
