Dean R If you've never seen a previous WOTW movie, you might think this one is decent. But it's a blatant, low-budget ripoff of the much better Tom Cruise movie, from crazy guy reacting badly to red vines everywhere to blowing up a tripod with explosives. It offers nothing original. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Dakota N What a miss. Its not hard to take the War of the Worlds story and make something interesting. All you need is good writing. This movie does not have that. From the first impact scene, to the first Martian sighting, to the tripod reveal, everything about the writing in this film is terrible. Characters don't react realistically, with no real sense of fear or panic. The first time the humans see a Martian, they might as well have been seeing a house-cat doing a weird trick. There was no sense of awe, shock, terror, now, or even fear. This is no the fault of the actors, who somehow make this terrible writing at least palatable, a talent in and of itself. While the cinematography isn't bad, and the CGI is acceptable, the overall work on this film is just not up to par. Theres no sense of weight, realism, scope, or scale that really gives us an idea of what we're seeing. And, importantly, what kind of astronomy student would look at "meteor" and not notice the uniform patterns across it, or start panicking when said "meteorite" starts to open up and reveals an octopus? There is just nothing believable about the events which lead us into the story, or the characters, so there's nothing for us to grab onto. This is just such a miss. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/05/24 Full Review Jacob R Hillariously terrible. I must admit we laughed out loud at multiple points even though there were no jokes in the entire film. If you want a cheesy, sub-B-film watch, give it a go! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Patrick S Utter garbage. Felt like it was made by teenagers. Was there even a script? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Andrew Glenn H Despite the wooden acting, slightly dodgy special effects and dubious props. This is a strangely watchable and dare I say, enjoyable film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Arthur S It's a Poundland (Dollarama if you're the other side of the Atlantic), version of WotW with Tom Cruise. I can forgive the awful CGI if the story is good. I don't know how they managed to make an awful version of this epic. Maybe they had a meeting and asked how they could make the worst ever re-make, decided and then someone else came along and made it worse. They say you can't get everything you wish for; I did, I changed channels! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
