      Critics Consensus

It would appear to be all but impossible to make a worthwhile sequel to a comedy about a corpse's exploits -- odds Weekend at Bernie's II never comes close to beating.

David W The first Weekend at Bernies was hilarious but this sequel is only just about passable. There are some funny moments which made me chuckle but there's none of the belly laughs this time around. Not the worst comedy ever but its a film that doesn't really need to exist other than to make a few quid and cash in on the original. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/24 Full Review Ace R Funny as hell! Not as funny as the first one though. But worth seeing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/23/23 Full Review Steve D The first had one joke the 2nd keeps using it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Huge Chrome P Weekend at Bernies is a premise that should not work twice, but surprisingly with enough difference the sequel manages to be somewhat entertaining if you can embrace the silliness. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member The first one made me laugh multiple times. You won’t laugh while asking “why am I watching this ?” Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/12/22 Full Review Audience Member Tag yourself: I'm the guy with the chicken watching a movie literally jump the shark. David Rooney Variety Bernie’s II stretches a thin idea even thinner, but it offers enough puerile fun and well-executed gags to lure fans of the 1989 predecessor back to theaters Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times Through it all, Mr. Kiser, who says not a word, exudes the foolish amiability of a partygoer who is beyond plotzed and is living in a private world of his own. Rated: 3/5 May 20, 2003 Full Review Hal Hinson Washington Post If the premise of the first film was mindless and repetitive, it's doubly so this second time around. Jan 1, 2000 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews Weekend at Bernie’s II does possess an affable, amiable vibe that proves effective at sustaining the viewer’s interest from start to finish... Rated: 2.5/4 Nov 10, 2023 Full Review Mike Ryan Uproxx I will point out that you shouldn’t watch the sequel. It’s truly terrible. You’re welcome! Sep 14, 2022 Full Review TV Guide At the film's conclusion, unfortunately, Bernie is still a fully animate zombie, leaving open the possibility of a third weekend.
