Rex Reed Observer Nick Stahl is a skillful master of how to move the gore with exactly the right pace to exude charm in spite of his character’s ongoing toxicity. He gets what he wishes for and ends up with more than he bargained for. Rated: 3/4 Jun 27, 2024 Full Review Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com One of the things that makes the movie work is that it acknowledges this fact but then makes the premise terrifyingly credible. Rated: 3/4 Jun 4, 2024 Full Review Kyle Smith Wall Street Journal Without straining to make an obvious point, Mr. Tomnay uses black comedy and shocking splatters of gore to tweak the class of jaded plutocrats who are as asset-rich as they are morals-poor. May 31, 2024 Full Review Aaron Murray Loud and Clear Reviews There’s a visceral idea within the film’s narrative that has enough potential to be particularly powerful in execution, but the result is something a little safer and, unfortunately, less interesting than it could be. Rated: 3/5 Aug 4, 2024 Full Review Rachel Wagner rachelsreviews.net The supporting cast is also excellent and the screenplay delights with every gory and shocking turn Jul 8, 2024 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media This food-focused thriller is a tad familiar and perhaps even predictable, but it still manages to throw in enough secret ingredients to keep things simmering. Nawar A Great 😊 movie!!! 🍿 ever ! Me and my family saw it 3 times now!!!! Incredible movie 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Claudio C What You Wish For (2023) Great Movie (11,779 – 22 Jun 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) The American chef Ryan (Nick Stahl) travels from Dallas to a South American country (seems to be Colombia) to spend some days with his friend Jack (Brian Groh). They befriended each other twelve years ago at a Culinary School and Jack invited Ryan to stay with him. On arrival, Ryan is impressed with Jack’s fancy house, and he learns that Jack is working for a selective agency that sends him to every part of the world and consequently he is well paid. Jack is depressed and they go to a restaurant to drink and eat. They meet the tourist Alice (Penelope Mitchell), who is traveling around the world to exotic places with the money she has saved while working. She spends the rest of the day with Jack and Ryan and has one night stand with Jack. On the next morning, Jack drives he to the hotel and Ryan, who is a gambler, is pressed by his bookmaker to pay US$ 50,000; otherwise, his mother will be killed. He buys a few days and returns home. Soon he sees Jack hanged on a beam at home. He accesses his bank account in London but is not able to manage it since he does not know the password. He contacts the bank manager that asks him to go to London with a document to recover the account. Ryan dumps Jack’s body in a nearby lake and searches the Internet to forge a driving license in a Chinese site. While waiting for the delivery of the document, Imogene (Tamsin Topolski) and Maurice (Juan Carlos Messier) from the agency arrive at the house to schedule a dinner in a couple of days. Ryan poses as if he were Jack and asks for information about the menu. When he learns the main ingredient of the four courses he needs to prepare, he understands why Kack was so depressed. “What You Wish For” (2023) is a great movie by Nicholas Tomnay with a bizarre storyline and great direction and performances. The plot has witty moments, and the whole situation is well-resolved. Although predictable and the viewer will certainly guess what is the main ingredient, but the development is excellent. My vote is seven. Nick Stahl is pure genius and the screenplay is so slick with tension from beginning to end. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/25 Full Review Megan D Must see if you love psychological thrillers. It’s a little slow in the first little part but gets so much better ! Worth a watch Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/13/25 Full Review J D Yes, its possible. Great movie. Welcome to the world of the super rich. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/28/25 Full Review Audience Member Only 1 plot hole is how Imogene doesn't knew Jack's face?? How Imogene and Maurice didn't have a chance to work with the real Jack before this?? Other than that it's really entertaining movie. The script is great Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/19/25 Full Review Read all reviews
