Jimmy (Sean Bean) aspires to be a pro soccer player, but as a heavy drinker with a go-nowhere job in a local brewery, his dream of making the team for Sheffield United seems an unlikely one. However, after starting a relationship with the pretty Annie (Emily Lloyd) and catching the eye of recruiter Ken (Pete Postlethwaite) during an amateur game, the future is suddenly looking brighter for Jimmy. Billy C Really breath-taking film. Both Football fans and movie fans will enjoy this movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/16 Full Review Audience Member Not quite as entertaining as Fever Pitch, but a good Saturday post-game watch. (Probably more so for Arsenal fans). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review anthony p I find it quite difficult to provide an objective review of this film considering the subject matter involved! Sean Bean plays the lead in this low budget independent film from 1995 about a thirty something Sheffielder who somehow becomes a first team hero at Sheffield United FC. Yes them. Just the sight of one of my childhood Sheffield Wednesday heroes Mel Sterland playing in the streaky bacon kit from the nineties made me want to vomit. The only good thing from this film was a song from Joe Cocker and seeing the old Stones Cannon Brewery. Sadly no longer there. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A very cheaply made film about football on a Saturday and this film focuses on one particular player in the football team. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member As a big football and British film fan I loved it, a 90's favourite of mine that I can watch time and time again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member If you like football as much a me and you always dreamed of making it but never did, Then this is how i would of hoped it had happened, This movie covers everything you want in a rags to riches football movie the movie is a joy to watch. The performance by Shaun Bean was great (as usual) and Pete Postlewaite puts in a great performance again, the story just flows nicely and easy to watch. Its a movie i watched again and again when i was a kid and have it on dvd. Even now i watch it and something inside me wants to get on to a football pitch and get spotted just like Jimmy does here. To Jimmy life was just a game... Until the game became his life! 9/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
