Richard Brody New Yorker Weber’s view of the privileged and the powerful highlights their responsibilities; she joins scrutiny of their hypocritical moralism to a panorama of their misrule. May 2, 2022 Full Review Clipper Staff New York Clipper Where Are My Children? Is a rather frank discussion of a subject better fitted for private conversation than the screen. Jun 27, 2022 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia Partially based on the case of Margaret Sanger, Weber's film tackles with prodigious subtlety a social critique on the ethical dilemmas of abortion, birth control, and eugenics. Audience Member Lois Weber and Phillips Smalley gave the American society a thought-provoking film that directly addresses an assortment of impermissible and controversial subjects that are still being discussed over a century later. Where Are My Children? is a straightforward film about its subject matter regarding abortion that also explores other character's perspectives on abortion through multiple story lines and subplots. Where Are My Children? is a good film that was ahead of its time with this dramatization of the moral and legal dilemmas within our American society. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review david l Where Are My Children? has weaker characterization and way too short running time, but in dealing with its subject of abortion, the film manages to be very modern and certainly admirable for its time. It is mostly very subtle, very well acted and well directed leading to a movie that felt engaging and modern a century later. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Fascinating 1916 movie about "birth control" (abortion) which begins with an interesting religious mythology about children, introduces some moral ambiguity, then ultimately asserts superior masculine moral judgement (despite considerable evidence to the contrary). The haunting final scenes are effective movie making even if they imply very specific and limited sources of happiness in life. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought that this film (along with much of what Lois Weber did) was ahead of its time. I'm impressed at her willingness to take on controversial issues. I thought this was thought provoking and bold. It's just sad to me that history seems to have all but forgotten Lois Weber. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This Tyrone Power Sr picture was a big disappointment for me; it is very uninventive and uninteresting mise en scene. On top of this it is preachy and convoluted. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/08 Full Review Read all reviews
