Rated as unfit for the military in World War II, Bill Morgan (Fred MacMurray) desperately wants to enlist -- in part to impress beautiful Lucilla Powell (June Haver). When Bill finds an ancient lamp, he rubs it and a jinni (Gene Sheldon) emerges. While the magical entity grants Bill's wish of serving in the Army, it gets the era wrong, and the aspiring soldier ends up on a time-hopping adventure, skipping from the Revolutionary War to the discovery of America and other points in U.S. history.

It has some wonderful moments, and how many other time-travel musicals can you name besides Just Imagine? Go to Full Review

The show rumbles along Technicolorfully and, on the whole, quite amusingly, with some really bright spots and a lot of others so shamelessly silly that you enjoy them anyway. Go to Full Review

RICHARD S 10/07/2024 Fine performances by MacMurray and the lovely June Haver, for what this film is. But it is a weird concoction of plot developments that lack good continuity. Some good musical moments, and you can experience MacMurray's surprisingly good vocal talent. Unless you are a committed fan of MacMurray or Haver, this is not worth the time it takes to endure it. It has the feeling of a film that was never fully completed. But, some nice music and great color! See more Steve D 01/18/2024 Some amusement but far too thin. See more Read all reviews
