Bill P For the most part, a very honest and well-performed and well-written story that celebrates the discovery of family, friendship, and the value we all have. Also to do with responsibility and learning to live lives of integrity. While the ending was both sad and inspiring in a way that I’m sure worked for a lot of people, it is where this movie for me went from earning 4-stars or more to only 3-stars. After a very honest and thoughtful reflection on theodicy offered up by the main character to his daughter, we are greeted with an ending that much like a lot of Christian cinema validates the notion that God must punish the sinner and reward the faithful - something that the world does not always see and that most Christian film continues to refuse to be honest about. Including this one. While I was impressed with the first 75 minutes of so, the conclusion felt forced, self-righteous, and familiar in a way that was unfortunate for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review C L Yes it's flawed but it's still good. The pacing and editing left much to be desired at times but the acting was well done and it's on par with some other artsy Hollywood stuff. But it had a good message and the actors did well together. It's worth a watch. I appreciated the true and real view that just because we don't get everything we want doesn't mean God isn't there or that he doesn't love us. And to those "top critics" who were mad about the faith aspect. It's not like they hid it. You knew what you were getting into. That's not the movie's fault. Stop expecting some movies to be something other than what they are and you might enjoy them more. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/06/23 Full Review Rowdy Sad ending, but a super awesome family movie. The rating says nudity, language and sexual... I seen no nudity, the language was almost non existent and the sexual scene was nothing. Like Sound of Freedom, they just want to down play it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/16/23 Full Review Andy B An amazing and thought provoking movie about taking the responsibility of living life as a privilege and a responsibility, seriously. Through a series of accidents, misfortunes, and mishaps the lead character clearly wants to move forwards. But fails. Again and again. Life takes an unexpected turn through an unexpected character. Compelling watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/21/23 Full Review Darren C I think Produce needs to hand some of these critics a "book"! There was NOTHING wrong with this movie. It is ok for movie makers to reference God in a positive way. And if that is why they rated this movie poorly, then shame on them. This is a great movie! Produce is great! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/10/21 Full Review Audience Member This movie is so bad. It's like an after school special. Corny as hell. Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Director Chris Dowling should have taken another swing at his script for the sake of clarity and dimension before cameras rolled. May 14, 2015 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times Not to be flip, but "Where Hope Grows" has the potential to be a decent inspirational film until God shows up. May 14, 2015 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety Like most if not all faith-based entertainments, "Where Hope Grows" embraces the idea that God works in mysterious ways. But it also insists that God helps only those who help themselves. May 14, 2015 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com This is how you make an emotionally satisfying and intellectually stimulating faith-based film. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 27, 2020 Full Review Daniel Barnes Sacramento News & Review DeSanctis is a force of nature, and for the most part this is less of a Bible thumper than a Bible tapper, but it gets downright shameless in the third act. Rated: 1.5/5 May 30, 2015 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue More admirable for its effort than its execution. May 22, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews
