Lisa Rosman Time Out It's a winning farce, if one that's far too broad. Rated: 3/5 Sep 13, 2016 Full Review Joe Williams St. Louis Post-Dispatch While it's a relief to visit a side of Africa that's not beset by poverty and war, we learn little about the characters. Rated: 2/4 Dec 3, 2010 Full Review Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post A film that chafes, even as it ingratiates. Rated: 2/4 Oct 15, 2010 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh Playback:stl ...the didactic and unbelievable nature of many of the conversations and events, sometimes emphasized by cross-cutting, strains the patience of even the most generous viewer. Rated: 4/10 Dec 5, 2010 Full Review Ian Buckwalter DCist At its best when looking at the 21st century trying to get a foothold in a country where a rural landscape, centuries of indigenous tradition and decades of entrenched colonial racism make progress difficult. Rated: 6.7 Oct 15, 2010 Full Review Chris Hewitt St. Paul Pioneer Press When it's all over, it's no more satisfying than a not-bad sitcom. Rated: 2/4 Oct 8, 2010 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member A joyful tender portrait of South Africa, not deep or political. Think of the protagonist "Elvis" as a modern day Odysseus trying to back to his Penelope. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the funniest movies I've ever watched in a uniquely South African way - I was pleasantly surprised. (I only wish there were some normal white South Africans... ) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I fully realize this is full of clichà (C) and some kitsch, too; and, which is worse, it has the aesthetics of a soap or television series. But this is not the full truth: it has some very good shots, too. And above all it made me laugh a lot, maybe due to the setting where I saw it (a small African film festival). So: three .stars malgrà (C) moi. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyed it. What's wrong with a little magic? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member a southern afircan 4 weeddings and a funeral (the goat!) meets "planes, trains and automobiles" good stuff. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This African Dramedy is surely gonna get in your heart. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
