Jason M Cheap movie that is poorly researched. The presentation of Australian soldiers is poor in the detail. Movie should be considered as a broad high level very basic idea but not an accurate historical reference. Good balance between action and drama. Some actors are a bit wooden yet the cast carries the movie effortlessly, feeling like a true family that suffers every other members' suffering. It's a hard watch, especially for anybody that served, but I assure you all the pain it brings is worth the catharsis! A gem! This film, at it's core, does a wonderful job telling the story of a family's many sacrifices in and around WWI, " the war to end all wars", calling into question the need for such sacrifices in the first place, in a way that is honorable towards all those individuals, families, and communities who pay the true price for wars they did not start. Decent acting might have saved it. But its a fail there too. I could bear an hour hoping for improvement...didnt happen. Turmed it off. The film extends from a war film into a strange and completely unnecessary bushranger murder story. The war scenes were full of terrible cliches, poor acting and horrible sets. Had the filmmakers lowered their ambition and made a simple war film they could have made a reasonable film. It is like sitting by the fire, with the family of Billy Kelly, and listening as their story is told. Well done for a low budget war film. If like me, you love sniper films, war movies, and get sucked in by Mom's who are fierce like mine was, this is definitely a much see film for you!
