Maggie Lee Variety To a layperson's eyes, the military exercise does look authentic, and the cross-country skirmishes are ruggedly watchable on an acrobatic level. Yet it's impossible to overlook the inanity of the plotting ... Apr 28, 2015 Full Review Richard Yu Cinema Escapist A weak story coupled with bizarre yet expectedly-Chinese plot devices made Wolf Warriors somewhat of a ridiculous propaganda film. Jul 2, 2019 Full Review Ed Travis Cinapse Between the rampant jingoism and military superiority narrative, the rough effects work, [and] the frequent silliness... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/10/25 Full Review jian s nationalist junk movie dont watch it Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review James B How does one even begin to get inside a mind as sick as that responsible for contriving a screenplay so maniacally and bombastically pornographic in its contempt for reason and truth... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Jonathan K I remember there was a James Bond film where it opened up with an exercise simulating combat, only for badguys to show up with real bullets. I mention that because Wolf Warrior (1) is really just this exact premise, just that this takes up the entire middle of the movie. Before this, after a single (albeit genuinely kinda awesome) action scene, you just have the moments of soldiers interacting casually, getting ready for the wargame exercise, and then a fight between Wu Jing and Scott Adkins (again, this is actually kinda awesome). The problem is that this results in a very threadbare movie that coasts purely on its craftsmanship alone. Now, luckily, Wu Jing does make for a likable lead hero, and Scott Adkins does make for a decent villain, although he wasn't used as well as in, say, Undisputed 2, Ip Man 4 or Triple Threat. The movie also features solid technical accomplishments, with a crisp image and solid audio mix & musical score, and the actual blocking of the action sequences is ultimately quite good. It's just.. there really isn't enough for a full movie here. The opening action sequence is extremely well-blocked, well-shot and well-edited, and would be right at home with the best of Hollywood action movies, but sadly, the rest of this movie isn't anywhere near as good by comparison, even during the parts when things get good. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The actions are from kindergarten, plot belongs to a bedtime story. Still, there is room for lame propaganda drama & self-boosted ego. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite the poor rating given this movie, I enjoyed it as it was full of military action battles both training and real exercises. Jing Wu and Scott Adkin bring justice to the action scenes in this one with good battles Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
