Critics Consensus

Though Hugh Jackman gives his all, he can't help X-Men Origins: Wolverine overcome a cliche-ridden script and familiar narrative.

Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Revenge soon grips Logan when his love is taken away, but Tsotsi director Gavin Hood seems bored by the sibling rivalry; even the Frankensteinian weaponizing of a human body feels rushed. Gregory S Did not do the Origin of Wolverine or Deadpool justice. Honestly, if they would have made it about the first 5-10 minutes it might have been pretty epic. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/18/25 Full Review Sohan N X-Men Origins: Wolverine offers some fun action and a solid performance from Hugh Jackman, but a messy plot and underwhelming character choices hold it back. It’s a forgettable origin story that misses the mark. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review James E Very overhated, but far from perfect. CGI is lacking a lot of the time, but not for lack of trying. Full of passion, it just barely misses the mark. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/03/25 Full Review Nerd W It started out okay, gradually got worse and I won’t even start with the CGI. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/25 Full Review Mate P ***SLIGHT SPOILERS*** X-Men Origins: Wolverine is sadly even worse than X-Men: The Last Stand. The dialogues are mostly terrible. There could be a few great themes and hints, but everything is pushed in the audience's face. The story is okay, generic, but there are cheap solutions to certain story elements throughout, which threw me out. It's also quite overstuffed, but I had no idea Deadpool would be in it, so that was a great surprise. Overall, the film is boring and predictable. I liked the ending though. The cinematography is very mixed, the action sequences didn't look good in my opinion, but the calm moments did. The editing is also very weird. The score is generic. The acting performances are mixed, Hugh Jackman is obviously good, but the others didn't convince me. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is boring, predictable and generic. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Paul S Yes, it's really bad. The story was bland and the characters (besides Wolverine) weren't that compelling. Obviously, the nail in the coffin for this movie was the depiction of Deadpool (or "The Deadpool" as he's referred to in the movie). However, this movie was kind of fun to watch, and I'd definitely put it in the category of 'it's so bad it's good'. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review Read all reviews
