Critics Consensus

Though Hugh Jackman gives his all, he can't help X-Men Origins: Wolverine overcome a cliche-ridden script and familiar narrative.

Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Revenge soon grips Logan when his love is taken away, but Tsotsi director Gavin Hood seems bored by the sibling rivalry; even the Frankensteinian weaponizing of a human body feels rushed. Cade C. This movie shows the origins of Wolverines and while it doesn’t stand very well, it’s not completely bad. The plot of trying to kill Wolverine was cool and many characters were neat too. While the relationship between Wolverine and Sabertooth was a bit odd and how CGI ruined some characters, this movie still is ALRIGHT. Plus that scene where Wolverine first gets his claws is honestly very awesome. I’d say WATCH IT if you love Wolverine but then let it go afterward. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/15/25 Full Review Recneps . The performances are solid and there are some fun action sequences, but the movie’s obsession with overexplaining literally every aspect of Logan’s backstory, some of the worst VFX I’ve ever seen, and an embarrassingly bad butchering of Deadpool make it a slog to get through. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/13/25 Full Review Ryland C Has a good story to expand Wolverines flashbacks from X2. In general, it’s a really entertaining prequel. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/08/25 Full Review Jens B Honestly, the film isn't as catastrophically bad as it's often portrayed. Rather, after a breathless opening, it's rather boring and, apart from the action, unspectacular. The plot is ultra-generic, characters are essentially two-dimensional carbon copies of the comic book versions, and the action, while inventive, is completely disjointed. Regarding Deadpool: 16 years ago, people were probably right to be upset about his portrayal in this film. After three Deadpool films and Ryan Reynolds' ubiquitous and always-the-same comedic persona, I was pleased that Deadpool at least shuts up for once in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/02/25 Full Review Garrett B It was pretty entertaining and forgettable in a good way. The romance in it was REALLY bad. Best of the 3 hugh jackman ones. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/21/25 Full Review Zein U Absolutely fantastic movie! Would recommend everyone to watch this masterpiece of a movie!
