What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though Hugh Jackman gives his all, he can't help X-Men Origins: Wolverine overcome a cliche-ridden script and familiar narrative.

Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Revenge soon grips Logan when his love is taken away, but Tsotsi director Gavin Hood seems bored by the sibling rivalry; even the Frankensteinian weaponizing of a human body feels rushed. Rated: 2/5 Nov 6, 2018 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times Wolverine starts with a roar before sliding into a chaotic, preachy mess. Nov 6, 2018 Full Review Roger Moore Tribune News Service Adequate Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 8, 2013 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It’s hard to really feel any strong emotions toward this film besides apathy, to be honest. Jul 22, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand It’s violent and cruel and shrouded in darkness, filled with the complicated backstories and the weirdly incestuous origin details from the comic books that [are] confusing and confounding and no substitute for a story. Marc Z I found this to be an enjoyable action film, with a bit of fantasy. I am not too familiar with these worlds, but I loved Deadpool and Wolverine. Not too sure how this fits in, although Wade Wilson is in the beginning. Hugh Jackman is very good in this role. Liev Schrieber is a good villain. Danny Huston is always engaging in every role. The action, adventure, and fight scenes are good, although a little over the top. This is designed to be an adult film, which is fine unless you expect a kids' comic book movie. I think they do a good job transcending the comic book world and making this an adult fantasy, action film. Made me want to see more in the series of films. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review twitchy b I really liked this when I was a teenager, but now it's pretty insulting to my intelligence. There are a distractingly large number of holes in the logic. Still, it's entertaining for a stupid action movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review Stavroula S Wasn't the best but it was definitely not as bad as people say the only reason people hate this movie is because of Deadpool Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Jared P Weaker writing than other xmen films but well acted. Still a solid film. I would recommend watching it just to say you have seen them all. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Audience Member It was good except for when Deadpool was introduced. They stripped everything he was known for and loved for and turned him into a mute side character that's only in the film for like 10 minutes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/16/24 Full Review Itz_ A The first scene was extremely disappointing i was curious to see what it would be like if wolverine and sabretooth fought on the opposing side of world war 2. This could also lean into a potential cross-over with Redskull and Captain America. Additionally this could put wolverine on the Marvel/Disney version of Mount Rushmore, similar to how Kanye is on the musical version of Mount Rushmore after recent events.
