Audience Member Diegues has a poor sense of mise-en-scène, the acting is decidedly theatrical and nobody cares about the accents (I mean, look at all these Portuguese characters speaking like Brazilians), but still it is quite amusing and funny to see a woman make a man go crazy for her. No caso, independente de ser uma escrava ou de ser uma rainha dos diamantes, Xica consegue sobressair-se a todos os preconceitos e opressões, tamanha sua graça e lábia. De fato, até o distante público acaba cedendo aos encantos dessa enérgica protagonista - e isso, sem dúvidas, se deve ao enorme talento e carisma da grande Zezé Motta. Válido mencionar o interessante paralelo que pode ser feito entre Xica e o próprio Brasil: ambos sabem efetuar "coisas que só eles conseguem fazer", mas ambos também almejam a liberdade e a igualdade em meio àqueles que os oprimem. No mais, um divertido longa de Cacá Diegues, ainda que se torne eventualmente cansativo devido a alguns excessos. Xica da Silva presents the story of the clever, ambitious and sexy slave Xica, the title character, in the mid-19th-century, and how she grow in the society in that time, using her body.
