Audience Member Fann Wong & Peter Ho Rated 3.5/5 Stars •  Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member After some initial and supposedly tounge in cheek references to Chungking Express, Derek Yee proceeds by attempting to emulate said movie all throughout The Truth About Jane & Sam. On the technical side this means extensive use of voiceover, a particularily unnecessary tool since Yee operates with straight narrative here, and some thematic echoes in the random ponderings on existence by the drama's young protagonists, characters who seem a bit too self-assured for such confusion and angst. And furthermore, neither Peter Ho nor Fann Wong can hardly be described as the most charismatic actors available, both appearing rather flat and colourless on screen. But Yee's screenplay gains some momentum and you eventually feel some sympathy for these ill-fated lovebirds. Also some great cinematography from Venus Keung, displaying a wide range of styles.
