Marking Bruce Timm's long-awaited return to the Batman mythos, Caped Crusader is a hard-boiled and retro treat for fans of the Dark Knight's previous animated adventures.

Roxana Hadadi New York Magazine/Vulture In its 10-episode first season, Caped Crusader takes the foundational aspects of the [Noie] genre — paranoia, conspiracy, and dramatic chiaroscuro visuals — and gives them a spin recognizable to Batman fans but not limiting to newbies. Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) You could be forgiven for wondering whether the character of Batman, everyone’s favourite caped vigilante billionaire, has much more to offer storytellers, but this is proof otherwise. Aiden H This show is actually pretty good, interesting reimaginations of fan favorite characters like Harley Quinn and bringing in golden age forms of characters that only die hard fans would know about. Though I do think it could use more Batman and I wish there was a different art style instead of just using the same guy he's been using since 2003. Though really good writing and ends on a thrilling cliffhanger Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/25 Full Review Nicholas B There's some things that work and some that could've been better. I really like the detective, mid-90's theme, but the atmosphere did seem a bit bland. I like the unique takes on most of the iconic characters. Batman himself isn't shown much and isn't all that powerful, but still carried in much of the action. Overall it's a show that was enjoyable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Jeff C Did we really need another batman cartoon? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Vincent S When compared to Batman The Animated Series, Caped Crusader has the similar 1940-ish aesthetic but is just a bit more grounded and leans more heavily into the "film noir" detective flick vibe. There's more investigation, more character development for GCPD characters like Commissioner Gordon, Barbara, Montoya, Flass & Bullock, etc. There are still supernatural and sci-fi elements but some aspects of the show are more down to earth and human and I especially love what they did with Harvey Dent and how both corrupt and weirdly sympathetic he is. The developing dynamic between Bruce and Alfred is also great. If you prefer early era "detective Batman" to the modern Tony Stark/mech-suit high-tech Batman this show is a real treat imho and manages to be both familiar and just different enough to feel fresh. The only thing that bothers me is the show's pg-13 rating as it feels at odds with the show's more mature tone and somewhat increased violence, people getting shot and dying is not uncommon. Batman doesn't need graphic gore but I really wish they went for pg-16 and a bit more blood at least. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/24 Full Review Morghen V The audience score says it all. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Jens B If you've seen anything "Batman" before, you'll probably be disappointed by this new show. Boring, flat stories and uninteresting limited animation make "Caped Crusader" a snooze fest for Batman fans. The voice talent is good and the score moody, I also liked the backgrounds. I won't watch more seasons of this tho. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
