What to Know

Critics Consensus

Cross' case for itself isn't closed just yet, but the commanding Aldis Hodge makes for the most arresting embodiment of James Patterson's literary creation yet.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) The criminal pursuit soon outweighs the thorny questions, but they give the show some necessary gravity. Rated: 3/5 Nov 22, 2024 Full Review Sherin Nicole RogerEbert.com 'Cross' is three-dimensional, spiky and introspective, with a streak of genuine creepiness shooting through the murky waters of DC crime. Nov 16, 2024 Full Review Kelly Lawler USA Today This version of "Cross," however, seems like all the worst stereotypes about the genre mashed up into a slow, overly long season of television. It's like a betrayal. Or maybe a double cross. Rated: 2/4 Nov 15, 2024 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com Not the "Alex Cross" from the Patterson books, but a good one just the same. Rated: 6/10 Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Callie Hanna FandomWire It wants to be a serious story with real themes and real social commentary and you can't do that while engaging in blind hero worship of a police officer. Rated: 5/10 Nov 29, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller FandomWire The television reboot of the uber popular James Patterson franchise of novels is as misfire, for now, but has a chance to improve on mistakes if given another season. Dan B I've enjoyed the series. Good to have a modern, updated version of an Alex Cross story. The character looked like you would imagine in the books. I always thought the Morgan Freeman Along came a spider film was ridiculously miscast, so good to have a believable actor as Cross. I liked the music and the cinematography. The series could have done with better editing but overall a good series Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/24 Full Review Matthew C Just enough grit and darkness to balance out the style. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/23/24 Full Review Stephen K I admit I was very skeptical when I started watching. I have read many Alex Cross books and was afraid it would be as many book to tv/movies go. I was surprised how very good it is. They did a great job, I can almost visualize the words on the page describing the scenes in one of the novels. And the story is great too! 5 stars... Absolutely must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/23/24 Full Review Goddess G THIS WAS SOOOOOOOO GOOD !!!!! I can’t wait for season 2 !!!!!! Omggggggg they did a amazing job with this show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Ismail S In my experience watching TV series and movies, "Cross" is a disappointment. The portrayal of Alex Cross feels overrated, lacking the depth I expected. The show seems more concerned with a romantic subplot than delivering a compelling thriller. While the love story is well-executed, the overall focus on "love and caring" undermines the sense of danger and suspense. I would have enjoyed the series more if it had focused on the "winning" aspect - the thrill of the chase and the detective work. For example, allowing Ed Ramsey to finish his book and escape would have created a more exciting and unpredictable storyline. It would have left viewers wondering if Ramsey would strike again or inspire others, adding a layer of intrigue that the series currently lacks. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Audience Member Where to start.... Production, confused scatter gun approach with high values.... Ah forget it... this show is like if blaxploitation did Jack Reacher but without the tongue in cheek knowing wink it tips you. It's a confused overblown mess of a show that does great literary characters no justice. Waste of time, don't bother. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Read all reviews
