What to Know

Critics Consensus

Cross' case for itself isn't closed just yet, but the commanding Aldis Hodge makes for the most arresting embodiment of James Patterson's literary creation yet.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) The criminal pursuit soon outweighs the thorny questions, but they give the show some necessary gravity. Rated: 3/5 Nov 22, 2024 Full Review Sherin Nicole RogerEbert.com 'Cross' is three-dimensional, spiky and introspective, with a streak of genuine creepiness shooting through the murky waters of DC crime. Nov 16, 2024 Full Review Kelly Lawler USA Today This version of "Cross," however, seems like all the worst stereotypes about the genre mashed up into a slow, overly long season of television. It's like a betrayal. Or maybe a double cross. Rated: 2/4 Nov 15, 2024 Full Review Callie Hanna FandomWire It wants to be a serious story with real themes and real social commentary and you can't do that while engaging in blind hero worship of a police officer. Rated: 5/10 Nov 29, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller FandomWire The television reboot of the uber popular James Patterson franchise of novels is as misfire, for now, but has a chance to improve on mistakes if given another season. Rated: 5/10 Nov 28, 2024 Full Review Natasha Alvar The Fiction Department Aldis Hodge is fantastic as Alex Cross, and should be reason enough to check out the show, especially if you're a fan of Patterson's novels. Greatful B This show is quite interesting with several plot twist. It's a must see show! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review OS Y This series was suspenseful, thought provoking, and tear jerking. I’d watch again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review Audience Member We all miss Mindhunter, but this will definitely scratch that itch for you in the meantime. Cross is a very clever show, can be disturbing at times, but also allows itself to have fun. You get a good mix of emotions here, which makes it an easy watch, and like I said, it's clever, so it's easy to watch when you are really engaged in the story, trying to figure things out. I have one big issue with the final episode, but whatever, I loved this show. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review Qwophi F Cross gave us a new level in crime genre and I hope to see more in the season 2. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review Charles H I only started reading James Patterson's novels this year. My first two were the first two books in the Alex Cross series, Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls. So, I was curious to check out the new Cross TV series. Personally, I really enjoyed it. The show does a great job of portraying his family life, his kids, his mother, his partner and best friend, without distorting the characters. The tone stays true to Patterson’s style, creating a twisted universe that deals with phobias, fears, and torture. The series also uses another element common in his books: the dual storyline that eventually intertwines, adding enough confusion to keep us hooked. The entire cast was well chosen, and Aldis Hodge perfectly captures the essence of the main character. The series is definitely worth watching, even if you haven't read the books. I’m already looking forward to season two!
