What to Know

Critics Consensus

Cross' case for itself isn't closed just yet, but the commanding Aldis Hodge makes for the most arresting embodiment of James Patterson's literary creation yet.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) The criminal pursuit soon outweighs the thorny questions, but they give the show some necessary gravity. Rated: 3/5 Nov 22, 2024 Full Review Sherin Nicole RogerEbert.com 'Cross' is three-dimensional, spiky and introspective, with a streak of genuine creepiness shooting through the murky waters of DC crime. Nov 16, 2024 Full Review Kelly Lawler USA Today This version of "Cross," however, seems like all the worst stereotypes about the genre mashed up into a slow, overly long season of television. It's like a betrayal. Or maybe a double cross. Rated: 2/4 Nov 15, 2024 Full Review Paula Vázquez Prieto La Nación (Argentina) A bit of the old CSI- style procedural and a patina of sordidness and social criticism that outlines a tight, effective, and quite addictive story. [Full review in Spanish] Jan 7, 2025 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com Not the "Alex Cross" from the Patterson books, but a good one just the same. Rated: 6/10 Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Callie Hanna FandomWire It wants to be a serious story with real themes and real social commentary and you can't do that while engaging in blind hero worship of a police officer. Audience Member This show keeps getting worse by each episode. Most of the story line doesn’t make sense. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Carol B This is a great show. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Aldis Hodge is absolutely phenomenal in this role. A must watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/25 Full Review Thomas O I was about halfway through the Cross Book Series and soo excited to see this movie Hodge is a great actor thought he was perfect for the role loved him in Leverage. Then I watched it and it was so disappointing that I almost stopped reading the books. This came out in 2024 but you would think the Screen play was from the hay day of the defund the Police in 2021. Which was NOT in any of the books. The flashback to the dead wife over and over was dumb and not in the books. The screen was so dark you could barely see in 90% of the scenes what a disappointment Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Rony D As a longtime fan of James Patterson's Alex Cross novels, I had high hopes for the Prime adaptation of "Cross." Sadly, this series falls short in almost every aspect, leaving me utterly disappointed. The most glaring issue is the casting of the lead role. Aldis Hodge simply doesn't embody the Alex Cross that readers have come to know and love. This poor casting choice sets the tone for the entire series, making it difficult to connect with the characters or become invested in their stories. The script and dialogue are equally lackluster, filled with forced drama and predictable plot points. The essence of Patterson's gripping storytelling is lost in translation, resulting in a bland and forgettable viewing experience. Furthermore, the pacing is unbearably slow, making it a chore to sit through each episode. The lack of action, combined with the weak script, only exacerbates this issue. In conclusion, "Cross" on Prime is a massive disappointment for fans of the original novels. With its poor casting choices, subpar script, and overall lack of excitement, this series is not worth your time. I'm left hoping for a more faithful adaptation in the future. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/25 Full Review Hunt G Wtf? I love Aldiss Hodge but this is the worst handling of Alex Cross I've seen. Change the name and I might have enjoyed it but there is nothing remotely Alex Cross I this show except the flash backs...just terrible which is a shame. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review John K Boo!! Hiss!! Lame!! This one is DOA!! Alex Cross is NOT THIS!! I have read ALL the books and enjoy the gripping, twisting, turning story that is Alex Cross. This is a REST STOP on the road to nowhere!! A snoozer!! An absolute waste of film!! Goodbye poor Alex!! This is Cross burned on re-entry!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/02/25 Full Review Read all reviews
