Detective Lois Tryon feels a series of heinous crimes in her small community are eerily personal, as if someone or something is taunting her. At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term hospital care and her own inner demons. With no leads and unsure where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan, a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Throw in grandiose crime scenes with those biblical implications and a bubbling cauldron in the desert and you have another bizarre guilty pleasure that taps into our dark sides and keeps us watching. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 16, 2024 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com Murphy and his collaborators Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken use that bar to push onto the audience things we haven’t seen and yet can’t erase from memory Oct 4, 2024 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times Where we might have expected camp kitsch, we instead find scenes redolent of classic gothic tales and gloomy neo-noirs such as Se7en and True Detective — a series prone to meditations on good and evil, faith and morality. grace b thought it was great😅 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/25 Full Review Sam D This series is best for academics and film students. It is Art on life support. One can have an appreciation for the fact that just like in contemporary fine art, a person has to have a certain amount of exposure and education to really understand the nuances within work. However, one cannot deny that contemporary Art, and this series alike, fail to evolve to the point where it's form fails to reach contemporary audiences. It's functionality might be sound but what good is it if no one wants to look? Personally it felt like someone was using a literal textbook to create this series. The average public, without art education in general or some connection to studies specialized in the artistic development of television and film, will be left to their own devices to try desperately to follow what the hell is happening. That could have been really powerful but it tries so hard it just loses it. I have a master's degree in art and I found myself skipping through scenes to get to the point. Visually for the most part it's quite incredible. The performances individually are incredible but it's because they come off as individual the whole thing doesn't really hold together that well. I read through the critics reviews and I snorted at one point because you could see them all trying so hard to sound like they're smart enough to understand what the hell is happening. And in some cases it really becomes the emperor's new clothes. In some cases I think trying to look clever and artistic is the only Point that's happening in what should be an important scene in the story. I mean several episodes in you still don't have any idea what the hell is going on with this weird ass relationship with the woman in charge of caring for the detective husband. It starts to feel like it's on the verge of a dada-esque play. The main character clearly is intended to appear smart and strong and she appears to be neither. She's a terrible one-dimensional drunk and there's not enough connections to her insights to make it seem like they're actually brilliant insights. The actress playing the part deserves an award but not because the character is that good it's because she did so well with so little. The whole thing is just weird. And I'm one who has a deep love for dada and the bizarre. So honestly, it feels to me like the people making this either word part of the cool crowd in school or were just trying so hard to make everyone believe they're brilliant. It's awful. For the average individual trying to watch the TV series this is awful. I haven't completed watching it and I'm assuming at some point some of these things will tie together because they don't right now it's like the plot has descended into a raging boil of chicken soup noodles flailing around in the pot randomly. There's not enough stitching it together throughout the thing. And the priest? Don't even get me started on that priest or that weird nun. No seasoned detective in the world would suddenly take a young crime obsessed none into their confidence at any point during a horrendous series of murders like this. And I think the creators have become enamored with romanticizing previous films about serial killers. It's clear that they watched Silence of the Lambs over and over and over until they could quote every line by heart. A bit of Salvador Dali a dash of Columbo. It's just awful. My suggestion strongly is to just not start watching it. If you are like me you want to see what the actual answer is and I'm now skipping over huge chunks of the show because it's just not bearable. Now if you can walk away from a question unanswered then by all means have a look and see what you think but it's not worth your time unless you're studying how self-absorption can ruin a series Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/26/25 Full Review Andre L Had high hopes for this one, but it was an epic failure on all fronts. Acting is flat out awful and not believable. CGI was decent in some spots, but laughable in others, very inconsistent. Stories were predictable and repeats of so many others that have been done over and over and over again, but done much better. I can't imagine there will be a season 2, but if there is, they need to fire all involved and restart. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Greg B Travis Kelce is in it. Had to stop watching as soon as I saw his face. What a waste of time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/07/25 Full Review Chris F I turned it off after a few minutes of episode 3. I find the characters unpleasant (and often stupid) and the storytelling has nothing captivating. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review David Jonathan B For all of its brilliant cast and their incredible acting, this series drags on endlessly in a tiresome loop to nowhere. The finale feels just like the average end to each of its proceeding episodes. There is nothing here to warrant a second series or to drag this viewer back for more. I was left simply not caring where it went, who the killer was, or anything else for that matter. What I did feel was kinda angry I had wasted so much time on it. Ryan Murphy is becoming as draggy as the shows he keeps churning out. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/23/25 Full Review Read all reviews
