Critics Consensus

Cleverly plotted and a wonderful showcase for star David Mitchell's brainy charm, Ludwig is a thoroughly pleasant mystery series that stays light on its feet.

An entertaining, mordantly funny show that’s also softhearted despite all the killings. Mitchell and Maxwell Martin have tremendous chemistry, as do Mitchell and Ola. The whole cast clicks. Go to Full Review

“Ludwing” never loses its pip nor its charm and a large reason why it works rests on Mitchell’s tensed-up shoulders and the show’s creators. Go to Full Review

It’s exactly what you want in a mystery: weekly cases that are complicated (but not too complicated), solved with puzzle logic, plus an overarching mystery that keeps the season moving. Go to Full Review

“Ludwig” is a real sleeper. Starting slowly, it grows on you until you are completely under its spell. Go to Full Review

David F @RT34372367 Apr 20 The new Ludwig is surprisingly good. It's a clichéd detective series, where the tec is a genius, but, oh, he's got that thing that people love to say about clever people "he's not very good socially". This is emphasised, of course, by a flashback to his childhood where he has a poster or cut-out of the seventh Doctor. Anna Maxwell-Martin seems to have descended into dowdy middle age, but there's still 'something for the dads' in Izuka Hoyle with her stunning eyes as DS Finch. Of course David Mitchell is playing Mark Corrigan, though a slightly more accomplished version. It's funny, well-written, set in picturesque Cambridge, and Series 2 and 3 have already been commissioned. See more Shayla W. @britishprocedural4ever Mar 14 Well done and enjoyable. Waiting for season 2. See more David W. @deedublu1350 Jan 16 Totally enjoyable mysteries and cast. Stress free tv and very entertaining See more Aggie N. @Aggie Nov 25 Marvelous. Highly recommend. See more Tjerk v @RT70816005 Nov 9 This reminds me of shows like Morse and a touch of Frost with a sprinkling of Monk. And that's a very good thing. I just wish they would have had Keeley Hawes playing his pretend wife. See more Jonah H @storees Oct 4 I mean, while it is David Mitchell playing a David Mitchell character, for those who appreciate it, it's the ultimate comfort food in a crime and mystery format. As a fan of him and the genre, this was simply candy to watch. Fun, witty, satisfying. See more Read all reviews
