For fans of classic romance tropes, it’s a delight to see two very different storylines served up in one sumptuous period piece. Whether you like earnest, sexy young love or erudite, sexy marital love, there’s something here for everyone. Go to Full Review

Outlander is a romance to be sure — the fate of Claire and Jamie, together and separately, propels the emotional connection. But it is also about the realities, and potential responsibilities, of moving through time. Go to Full Review
Angie Han The Hollywood Reporter Aug 11
Richly imagined, audaciously epic and, above all, unabashedly and deliriously romantic, it casts a spell that lingers long after the credits have rolled. Go to Full Review

Outlander Blood Of My Blood continues in the grand tradition of fantasy period romance, and Starz’s unyielding commitment to not providing audio description for any of their programs. What a grand tradition to uphold. Go to Full Review

With the same tripping-through-time setup and focus on epic romance in times of political unease and war as Outlander, this series is a worthy follow-up. Go to Full Review

In addition to the backstories of Jamie and Claire, the plot cleverly captures the formidable dilemmas faced by women trapped in patriarchal societies and - on a deeper psychological level - feeds into a natural curiosity about who one's parents are/were. Go to Full Review

Chris W. @Stanleyman1028 May 4 I can’t seem to stop watching this show. Of course it would seem that a person who suddenly found themselves in a period of seventeenth century would surely think that it was an isolated area that had stayed as is. Not an actual seventeenth century lifestyle. See more John B. @Lanecommander Feb 21 Outlander was one of the finest series I’ve ever seen and part of it was Bear McCreary’s wonderful music which really brought you into the time and place, so what happened here? I was so disappointed in this series. I don’t see any chemistry whatsoever between Ellen and Bryan or Julia and Henry. Despite Ellen‘s avowed desire to never marry, all she had to do was take one look at Bryan and renounce all thoughts of spinsterhood. Isn’t it odd that Claire thought her parents had been killed in a car accident at Craig Na Dun and apparently never knew that their bodies had not been recovered, although they presumably washed down the stream to wherever. Within the context of time travel one’s credulity must be stretched, but this takes things to yet another level. But of course the whole series depends on this plot device. I realize that the original story was never written with the idea of a prequel so the writers are stuck with jamming jigsaw puzzle pieces that don’t quite fit into the frame created by Outlander. I plan to watch the first episode or two, but I expect that I will bail out because I don’t see any hope of me developing any real interest in these characters. See more Carole S @Sulley613 Feb 17 I really wanted to love Blood of My Blood because I really love Outlander. But unfortunately, this series falls so flat. I don't feel any chemistry between the leads. Brian is so dull and he tries to deliver these romantic moments, and they end up very robotic. Ellen lacks, well she just lacks. I don't buy that she is in love with Brian and would give up everything for him. I think if I could sum up in one word BoMb it would be lackluster. It absolutely works within the same universe — the tone, atmosphere, and storytelling style feel consistent and loyal to the original series. The casting is truly impressive: the younger versions of the iconic characters are so believable that you genuinely feel they are their future selves, especially the MacKenzie family. The creators are fortunate to have such a strong foundation — a rich collection of novels to draw from — and they use this source material wisely. The show keeps the spirit of "Outlander," and because of that, it works beautifully. If you're a fan of the original series, this one is definitely worth watching. Highly recommended.
