Synopsis
Tobacco farming has been a staple of life for many families in Kentucky for a number of generations. The tobacco that is harvested in the Bluegrass State is a particular type of the crop, dark fire tobacco, that is particularly lucrative with an annual value of about $3,000 per acre. The competition to harvest dark fire tobacco -- used in cigars and chewing tobacco -- is fierce and the crop is notoriously precarious so making money from it isn't easy. But that doesn't stop the families featured on this reality show from trying and dedicating their lives to the job.
