Anwan Glover
Film, radio and television personality Anwan Glover rose from adversity on the streets of Washington, D.C. to enjoy a multi-pronged career as a character actor on "The Wire" (HBO 2002-2008), a radio DJ and a popular musician, as well as a spokesperson for youth in crisis. Glover's fame began as a teenager with the Backyard Band, a popular act on the D.C. club scene, before assuming the role of Slim Charles, a tough enforcer in the Baltimore drug industry, on "The Wire." The acclaim afforded to the drama boosted Glover's celebrity, which he parlayed into a variety of screen roles, most notably in Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" (2013). Glover's success as a performer, community leader and media figure indicated that he was destined for greater acclaim in a variety of platforms.
