Actor Barry Sloane got his start playing bad boys on British soap operas "Brookside" (Channel 4, 1982-2003) and "Hollyoaks" (Channel 4, 1995-) before making the move to prime-time American television with recurring roles in camp melodrama "Revenge" (ABC, 2011-15) and alien invasion series "The Whispers" (ABC, 2015-). Born in Liverpool, England in 1981, Sloane initially pursued a career as a musician, attending his local music college and performing in various bands, but after portraying the late Beatle's childhood friend Ivan Vaughn in the biopic "In His Life: The John Lennon Story" (2000), he switched his attention to the acting world. In 2002 he joined the cast of long-running soap "Brookside" (Channel 4, 1982-2003) as it entered its final year, appearing as Ruth's abusive ex-husband Sean Smith, and went onto land the roles of Darren in "Pleasureland" (Channel 4, 2003) a controversial drama about a young girl's quest to lose her virginity, and Piers in reality TV satire "I'm A Juvenile Delinquent, Jail Me." Following a two-episode stint in short-lived legal series "The Courtroom" (Channel 4, 2004), Sloane played Private Glynn in the BAFTA-winning war drama "The Mark of Cain" (BBC Three, 2007) and appeared in a third Phil Redmond creation when he was cast as Niall Rafferty in popular teen soap "Hollyoaks" (Channel 4, 1995-). Sloane made a lasting impression as the mysterious and murderous hairdresser who exacts revenge upon his long-lost family before bowing out in typically dramatic fashion, and further built up his profile with guest spots on medical soap "Doctors" (BBC One, 2000-), police procedural "The Bill" (ITV, 1984-2010) and Saturday night institution "Casualty" (BBC One, 1986-). Sloane then enjoyed an eight-episode stint in the latter's equally successful spin-off "Holby City" (BBC One, 1999-) as Territorial Army medic Kieran Callaghan, and showed up as roguish father Jackie Wray in the adaptation of Peter Robinson's crime novels, "DCI Banks" (ITV1, 2010-). Sloane's career reached new heights in 2012 when he landed the role of Emily's ex-boyfriend Aiden Mathis in American prime-time soap opera "Revenge" (ABC, 2011-15), and a year later he made his film debut playing murderous diamond thief Chad in Michael Keaton thriller "Penthouse North" (2013). After briefly returning to British television with a one-off appearance in period crime drama "Father Brown" (BBC One, 2013-) Sloane played a Poacher Leader in Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic "Noah" (2014), landed the recurring role of defense department operative Wes Lawrence in paranormal drama "The Whispers" (ABC, 2015-) and starred as policeman Eric in "Shooting an Elephant" (2015), a self-produced short film based on George Orwell's short story of the same name.
