Bill D'Elia has worked extensively in primetime network dramas as a director and producer. D'Elia began working as a commercial director in the 1980s, after making training movies for the Army. He got his feature career started with the independent film "The Feud"; a creative if not a financial success, the movie led to a meeting with uber-producer Steven Bochco who hired D'Elia to direct an episode of "Doogie Howser, M.D." Bochco followed it up with multiple episodes of the quirky series "Northern Exposure"; that show's runaway success helped secure heaps of work for the budding television director--including future stints on the teen soap "Beverly Hills, 902010," the medical series "Chicago Hope." D'Elia served as the executive producer of the David E. Kelley shows "Ally McBeal" and "Boston Legal," before creating his own legal series, "Judging Amy," which launched in 1999 with Amy Brenneman in the title role. For his directing, he has been nominated for multiple Emmy Awards.
