Chip Chalmers
Chip Chalmers has worked primarily as a first or second assistant to the director or as a primary director on a number of popular television series. Two notable shows in the beginning of his career were "The A-Team," starring Mr. T., and "Miami Vice," starring Don Johnson--both action shows featuring unconventional law enforcement teams. Chalmers's first chance at directing, however, was with "Miami Vice," and later the same year he got a chance to work as the first assistant to the director on several episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." The following year on the series, he started directing his own episodes. On the heels of that project, Chalmers started working on two Darren Star nighttime soaps featuring ensemble casts of 20-something adults, "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Melrose Place." On "Melrose Place," Chalmers worked as an assistant director for 12 episodes, though he directed much more for the show in comparison. For "Beverly Hills, 90210," Chalmers took the helm as director for a few episodes in the third and all the way to the final season. Even as executive producers changed several times during that period on "Beverly Hills, 90210," Chalmers remained a go-to director throughout.
