D'Angela Proctor was an American television executive and producer who served as the Senior Vice President of Original Programming and Production for TV One. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Proctor had an early fascination with media. She worked as the editor of her school newspaper, and found the experience exhilarating. However, when it came time to enter college, Proctor chose to study Political Science at Spelman College in Atlanta. She went on to earn her Bachelor's degree from the school, and soon entered law school at Pittsburgh's Duquesne University quickly thereafter. After earning her Juris Doctorate degree, Proctor began practicing as a labor and employment defense law at local firm in Pittsburgh. She found the work to be unsatisfying, however, and longed to do something in media, just like she had when she was in high school. With that in mind, Proctor began sending out resumes to various entertainment companies, including Oprah's Harpo Productions, but repeatedly came up short. So Proctor decided to put her innate entrepreneurial skills to good use by starting her own production company called Strange Fruit. Over the course of the next 15 years Proctor produced a number of music videos, television shows, commercials, documentaries, and films for Strange Fruit, thus giving her hands-on experience on the day-to-day grind of entertainment production. After a decade and a half of running her own production company, however, Proctor was beginning to feel burned out by the nonstop hustle. She had also just given birth to her son, and was looking to redirect her career into work that was more stable. Once Proctor put herself on the market, TV One quickly hired her, where she took on the role of Vice President of Original Programming and Production. During her tenure as an executive at TV One, Proctor has executive produced a number of TV shows and films, including the TV series "Born Again Virgin" (2015), as well as the TV movies "A Royal Family Holiday" (2015) and "Time Will Reveal" (2016).
