Ed Bye is a British TV and film director best known for his work on the hit U.K. sitcoms "My Family" and "Red Dwarf." Bye began his career as a production manager at the BBC. Some of his early TV credits include production work on the cult comedy "The Young Ones" and its sister series "Girls on Top," co-created by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. It was on the latter series that Bye made his directorial debut and met his future wife, the comedienne Ruby Wax. Bye later worked with French and Saunders on their self-titled sketch comedy show, and on "Bottom," co-starring Saunders's husband, "Young Ones" star Adrian Edmondson. Bye continued working in British television throughout the 1990s and 2000s, working with writers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor on the critically-adored sci-fi spoof "Red Dwarf," and the comedy duo of Jasper Carrott and Robert Powell on the slapstick-slanted series "The Detectives." Although he made forays into feature films, most notably the club culture farce "Kevin & Perry Go Large" (2000) and the film adaptation of the underground comic strip "Fat Slags" (2004), Bye continued his most noteworthy work on the small screen with directorial credits on the popular U.K. sitcom "My Family."
