Greg Malins

Most TV producers would be content with one global mega-hit, but Malins repeated the trick several times with "Friends" (NBC, 1994-2004), "Will & Grace" (NBC, 1998-2006), "How I Met Your Mother" (CBS, 2004-2014) and more. Greg Malins (at the time going by the name Gregory S Malins) started as a writer, his first credits being two episodes of cult comedy "Dream On" (HBO, 1990-96), where his first worked with Marta Kauffman and David Crane, and another for "The Wonder Years" (ABC, 1988-1993). He also worked as a screenwriter on "Daddy Dearest" (Fox, 1993) which is of particular significance as it is where he met his future wife, actress Jennifer Milmore, who was working as an assistant to the producers at the time. However it was when he joined the team on NBC's breakout hit "Friends," created by former colleagues Kauffman and Crane, that Malins really found his place in TV. Starting as a writer on season two, he would pen 17 episodes in all. He was promoted to producer by 1996, co-executive producer by 1997 and finally executive producer from 1998 until he left the show in 2001. He even played a bit part as 'Man on Airplane' in season four. Meanwhile he joined "Veronica's Closet" (NBC, 1997-2000) in the same capacity. He peppered his successful run of sitcoms by writing and/or producing a number of TV movies including "Romeo Fire" (2002). After "Friends" and "Veronica's Closet" wrapped, he helped launch "Will & Grace" both as occasional writer and full time producer. After striking gold once again with "How I Met Your Mother" (CBS, 2005-2014), he had a rare misfire with the short-lived sitcom "Better With You" (ABC, 2010). Malins was back on track on the writing staff for the raunchy hit "2 Broke Girls" (CBS, 2011-) before co-creating the romantic comedy "Ground Floor" (TBS, 2013-) with Bill Lawrence.
