Tip Toe practically stomps in, boldly calling for history to not repeat itself. Davies has done it again, creating another landmark show that captures the queer zeitgeist.  Go to Full Review

Cumming and Morrissey are outstanding, the story horribly compelling, and the horrors plain and brutal. Go to Full Review

Cumming and Morrissey take centre stage in a tour de force drama from Davies. Perfectly paced and smartly written from start to finish, Tip Toe is mandatory viewing that deserves our undivided attention. Go to Full Review
Barbara Ellen Observer (UK) Jun 9
Tip Toe works best not just as a study of Clive’s attitudes, but also Leo’s endlessly patient management of them. The story’s climax feels excessive, but that was a risk Davies was prepared to take. Go to Full Review

Rachael H @RT35175233 2d A beautifully written, engaging story with characters everyone can see themselves in. In only a few episodes, a lot of deep storylines, characters and complexities that encapsulate the modern world were shown. Each character had a balance of good and bad and each scene left you wondering what each person was going to do next, hoping things can be resolved. The ending was tense, uncomfortable and disturbing but so important and confronting- don’t be compliant, call people out as emotions can translate to severe anger for many. People saying it’s far fetched are being naive- things like this have happened and they do happen today. This show perfectly captures the increase of far right hate for the LGBTQ+ community; the ‘trend’ of Pride is over. Brands aren’t changing their logos to rainbows anymore, homophobes are increasing their volume again in a comfortable manor and if you haven’t noticed these, be grateful you have the privilege not to have to tip toe in society. See more David B @blackwoodd90 4d Enjoyable, but also dark, far-fetched, preachy and at times uncomfortable. Not every gay person is an unhinged left-wing extremist lol See more L. F @RT68678650 Jun 23 David Morrissey & Alan Cummings were superb, it's just a shame that the script let them down on occasions. The series started with real promise, but ended up being too jam packed with themes & stereotypical characterisation. By trying to say everything, it unfortunately missed the mark a lot of the time. There were some really poignant, quieter moments (e.g. Leo's conversations with Melba & Steph) which were a real triumph. Sadly there were also far too many pointed conversations shoe-horned in, plus over the top scenarios which felt unrealistic & sensationalised to the point of becoming distracting & farcical. It's a big shame as I actually think, with a lot of editing & more focus/subtlety/realism, there was a really good story to be told here. See more Tom J @RT60620082 Jun 21 Could have been a good series but the storyline is so far fetched and obviously grassping at a narrative. See more Phil H @RT50144422 Jun 21 Some incredible writing here - and the general intention is important and vital. The lead characters have depth which is teased but not enough - and there are many missed opportunities and some clangers (bisexuality ignored completely in one awkward dialogue for example). However, it is both deeply harrowing and also a bit far fetched - especially the final epiosde which played out like a greek tragedy: horrifying but unrealistic and exaggerated putting spectacle before realism. It is full of stereotypes left right and centre, and many of them extreme. For 5 episodes it was too stuffed with themes and complexity that didnt have space to explore fully (eg Clive's internalised homosexuality), and in the end the priority was given to evoke pure shock - which RTD always ends up falling back on. It could have been more focused at 5 episodes, less characters and themes - or all this content over 10 episodes would have given more breathing space and subtlety.
